Honesty is the best Policy - Disagree

Is honesty always the best policy you ask? In some cases most of you would say yes. However sometimes honesty is not always the best policy. What you do not know cannot hurt you.

Firstly by being honest with your friends means you have to tell them the truth in all instances. For instance when your best friend asks you if she looks fat? Do you tell her the truth and say, “Yes your bottom does look fat in that dress.” Or do you tell a little white lie and save their self esteem. By being honest at all times with your friends could lead to your friend having self esteem issues or even becoming anorexic or bulimic. How would you feel if your friend became severely thin because you told her she looked fat? Wouldn’t it be alot easier to hide the truth from her?

Additionally if you were to tell the absolute truth in your relationships, how long would the relationship actually last for? If you asked your spouse or partner if he was perving on the girl at the party, do you really want the honest truth? I know I wouldn’t. I would much rather think that he only has eyes for me. If you knew your partners every thought, I doubt that you would look at him in the same way ever again. How many of you really want to know, what exactly goes on in their head? Therefore I believe it is far better for your partner to tell little white lies to protect you from the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Furthermore honesty is not always the best policy in job interviews. If you think of how many little white lies and exaggerations people tell to land them their dream job. Come on now, we have all done it. “Are you reliable?” “Of course, I am extremely reliable.” Do we really tell the employer the honest truth, “well actually to be exact I often arrive to work late and I have alot of sick days.” For example if you were applying for a position working in a tobacco company, the employer may ask you, “what do you think of our brand of cigarettes?” If you were to be honest you would say, ” well actually I think your product stinks, it kills thousands of people each year, gives us lung cancer and heart disease and it should never have been invented.” However if you were to tell a little white lie, you would reply by saying, “your brand of cigarettes is fantastic, sales will hit the roof by the packaging and advertising you use.” Therefore sometimes people need to be dishonest to get them where they want to go in life.

Thus in summary, honesty is not always the best policy. Honesty will only destroy your relationships, friendships and leave you unemployed!
