How to have a Good Day
It is sometimes harder to have a good day than it sounds. You can wake up in a great mood and then those sneaky little grouchy thoughts start creeping in and before you know it, the day is ruined. Never fear cranky friends, there is hope for ensuring a wonderful day.
Greet the day
When that eye pops open, first thing in the morning, belt out a hardy “Good Morning!” and then let your eyes actually open and focus. Of course it sounds insane to talk to the air, that is the whole point. This can work in your favor if you have other people in your home because they will assume you are talking to them and that is not a bad thing. If you live alone, who cares? Say it anyway and you might just make yourself smile in the process.
Sing a silly song
While taking your morning shower, start singing a song and make sure it makes no sense. That’s right, make sure the song has the silliest words you can dream up, in it. The silly song fest does not stop there friends, no no, now you need to make up another song while you are making that wonderful pot/cup of coffee. Hey, why not sing to the coffee maker or coffee? If you do not drink coffee then sing to your juice, tea and/or breakfast. Sing to the newspaper or your clothing as you get dressed. The point to singing a silly song is to make yourself smile and feel good.
Talk/text with a happy person
When you get the chance, talk to someone who is known to be a cheerful person most of the time. It is rather difficult to be grouchy for very long when talking with a happy person. They have a habit of telling jokes or talking about uplifting topics. Another habit happy people have is laughing a good part of the time. They can help keep your spirits up and who knows, you might find their good mood infectious.
Learn to laugh
Laughter is good, cheap medicine for crabbiness. The prescription for laughter is to take liberally as needed, everyday. You may want to learn how to laugh on those days when it seems like nothing is going right. Instead of letting those days get on your last nerve and turn you into a grouch, make yourself think of something funny and just laugh. Even a little giggle to yourself can be a great stress reliever. Once you smile, you are halfway to a good chuckle, so try it the next time you feel out of sorts.
Patience is a virtue
Many people have a rough time being patient during their busy day. Whether you are stuck in traffic, or in line at the super market, it is good to not let yourself get frustrated. Once you get annoyed and worked up over something or someone, then the day begins that downward spiral from good to bad. Learn to smile more and be patient. Once you are more patient and relaxed, you might just find that most everyday is a little (or a lot) better.
Take 5 minutes for yourself
Whether at work, school or home; taking a five minute breather can greatly improve your day. This simple short break can be the difference between whistling a happy tune and saying words that no one should say. If possible, close your eyes and just breathe for a few minutes or walk outside and soak up some sunshine. Sit down or stand up for a few minutes to stretch and/or relax. Take a couple of minutes to get yourself a cup of coffee/tea and enjoy it. These are little breaks that you can look forward to during the busy day and just knowing the break is coming, can make the day better.
Relax at the end of the day
Set aside some time before you go to bed to relax. You can settle in and read a good book, take a bubble bath or enjoy some caffeine-free herbal tea. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it is fun and relaxing to you. This can help bring a close to a good day and even help you sleep better. When you sleep good, the next day will be off to a better start.
There are so many things you can do to make everyday a good day. It is a fact of life that some days just seem to be full of obstacles and “bad” things. It is also a fact that you can still manage to turn those bad days around and make them good. The key is not giving in to the bad mojo and allowing it to ruin your day!
