Ten Mistakes People Make in Life

There are literally thousands of mistakes people make daily, everything from spelling mistakes, to fashion faux pas. Let us discover ten interesting mistakes people make regularly.

1. Not Graduating College. College (or University) can be the best time of a persons life. Certainly getting passing grades is a lot easier than pleasing a finicky employer. With weekends and summers off, what could be better? Lesson One: Stay in College.

2. Having Children. Most parents, at some point, complain about how time consuming and draining their children are. They also say children are expensive and a real lifestyle change. Lesson Two: Do not have too many Kids.

3. Buying the Wrong Ticket. This also goes hand in hand with “Betting on the wrong horse” and “Folding too soon”. A lot of people would be a lot better off financially if only they bought the right ticket, bet on the right horse, or stayed in the game. Lesson Three: Win the Lottery.

4. Wearing White. Whoever thought white was an appropriate color for clothing must not have “had a life”, had their period (ladies), or had children. Do not be afraid to wear bright colors and show off your personality, do not be afraid to wear dark colors and get dirty. Life is not about staying clean. Lesson Four: Go Goth.

5. Taking Life Too Seriously. You will note that the above points were all written from a slightly off-center point of view. At least, let’s hope you did. Life is both too short, and too long, to take everything seriously, do not treat life like a job. Treat life like a one time experience you want to savor. Oh wait.. life is a one time experience. Lesson Five: Lighten Up.

6. Not Investing in the Future. On a more serious note, a big mistake other people make is living only for the here and now. One of the most important things a person should plan for is home ownership. Owning your own house is much better than throwing your cash at a landlord. Plan for retirement, young people for some reason do not plan on living beyond the age of thirty. Guess what? Most of you will. Buying a house is a form of old age pension, and putting money away is important too. Lesson Six: Plan on Living until you are 100.

7. Staying in our Comfort Zone. Many people lead sheltered lives, staying in their comfort zones. Did you know that for all their wealth, Americans are one of the least likely people to travel to an unfamiliar destination? Most Americans choose destinations within their own country. Even so Cancun was built for the express purpose of serving American tourists, there is nothing Mexican about Cancun, it is like any American city, plus a beach. Lesson Seven: Travel to India.

8. Being our Child’s Friend. It is okay for your kids to like you, it is okay for them to hate you. It is not okay for them to walk all over you and the rest of the world because they have not be given any discipline. Teach kids what “no” means. Do not entertain them constantly with televisions or video games. It is okay for them to sit in a car and look out the window. In the real world they have to learn how to deal with rejection and boredom. Lesson Eight: Be a Real Parent.

9. Losing Touch with Nature. Often we are surrounded by technology, living in concrete jungles. This is not how people were meant to live, cubicles are not natural. Some people have separated themselves so much they have forgotten that people are animals (mammals to be exact). Our bodies crave the outdoors, yet this is foreign to many people. Many yards are so manicured there is nothing natural about them. Lesson Nine: Go to a Natural Park.

10. Thinking we Know it All. Everyone has lessons to teach, and lessons to learn. If we think we are always right, that our view point is the only one that matters, we will miss something, and really have no reason to continue living. Lesson Ten: Keep an Open Mind.
