Going through Life with an Awkward name
Going through life with an awkward name
There are many people thankful that their parents gave them a common name, Like John or Mary and there are the ones who wish they would have had names that were uncommon. I could never understand why anyone would want to name their children a name they would have to carry the rest of their lives ashamed of.
To some parents, naming their children a name that was carried or passed down throughout the generation would be an honor to those generations to keep those names living on in the newest generation. However, it’s going to be that child with the strange name to be picked on and teased in school or on any playground in the world.
It’s best parents think long and hard before naming their children any strange and unusual name, look up the meaning of the name and write it down in a journal with the meaning of the name so that your child can read and learn about their name when they are old enough. Bubba Bumbass Beasley was one Man who had a rough childhood just because of his name and I’m certain his family didn’t find anything wrong with his name but everyone else that Bubba came in contact with gave him the blues and a couple of black eyes.
When the teacher would call the attendence roll and get around to his name, he would slide down in his chair with his hand over his face in embarrassment, while the other kids giggled and laugh at his name. What parent in their right mind want to put their children through this turmoil? And later expecting one of their grandchildren to continue to carry this monstrosity of a name.
There is a solution to going through life with an awkward name. When you are old enough to change it, you can get a legal name change. You might hurt your parents feelings by changing your name but explain to them the pain it caused you. you definitely don’t want to pass that name on to your child, bringing them the same pain.
If you can’t change your name because you are not old enough or you’ve decided it would hurt your parents to much for you to change it. Find ways to make the name shorter, only use your middle or last name or come up with a nickname.
