Humor on a daily basis

Humor is an attitude, it’s not about telling jokes, being funny or having fun. Humor allows you to take a step back and gain an outsiders point of view of situations and people. Humor accepts that some situations are funny in their own right, even if at the time
you wouldn’t dare say so.

If you are lucky enough to have a sense of humor, you can use it to your advantage. It’s a great de-stressor, and its the best thing of all if you are able to laugh at yourself. There are certainly daily uses for a sense of humor to come out! Arguments can be resolved with a sudden realization of the silliness of it all.

A friend of this writer had an argument with her boyfriend in the car over something of no importance. Still, it got so heated that he jumped out of the car and walked six miles home! When he finally got back, exhausted, wet and hungry, both of them just burst out laughing as they could see how comical the situation was!

Comedians see humor in situations and people all the time. This doesn’t mean that comedians are always funny people, or that they don’t get depressed, or that they only see comedy in obviously funny stuff.

No, the ability to see humor in any situation is a gift. Humor makes people real, it connects everyone to their fellow human beings. It helps everyone not to get too big-headed, and it helps to keep things in perspective.

The great thing is you can find humor absolutely anywhere. It can suddenly jump out at you in the most unexpected moments. The other day this writers computer wasn’t working properly. At first it was extremely slow, then she got kicked out of programs that needed to be used for work, then the mouse button fell out … she got so annoyed she gave the monitor a little punch and at that very second the font size went from a size 12 to about a minus 15! She just burst out laughing! Nothing was fixed and now she couldn’t even see anymore, but thankfully she could see the funny side.

This is exactly what humor is: realizing that everything can be seen from different angles, that everything has a potentially funny side while also being sad, or serious, or frustrating or unjust.

Humor can operate even in the absence of ‘ fun’. And it doesn’t have to be shared like a good joke. The good thing is you can keep it all to yourself! That way you don’t have to feel guilty if your sense of humor alerts you to something funny in a not-so -appropriate place!

Humor is most definitely a survival aid and provides you with a psychological advantage over those whose frown lines become deeper on a daily basis!
