What it means to be a emo in today’s society

Emo. It’s an interesting word, isn’t it? While others would argue emo means that you’re in love with black, you like skulls, spiky hair, and other things; I’m telling you the real definition of “emo”. Now, you’re probably wondering how I could know the “real” definition of emo, aren’t you? Surprisingly, I do know it, though. I am emo. Emo nowadays stands for emotional. Although, back in the day emo was a genre of music, which is why most people seem to categorize it as a genre still. Now, for comparing emo and goth. They’re in no way the same. Goths are known for loving darkness, although some emos do, too. But Goths, are much darker than we emos. Goths, unlike emos also are usually known for not being religious. [I am not saying all are not religious, that’s just my point of view].

People sometimes get punks and emos mixed up. Punks are known for their radical hair. [Whether it’s spiked, or not; etc.] And they’re usually known for hair colorization. Green is the color I usually seem them wearing. Punks, also like chains. [Sort of like Goths are known for].

Now, let’s go back to “emo”. Like I said earlier, emo means emotional. See it in there? I hope you do. We emos are sometimes stereotyped as “cutters” - the one’s that always attempt suicide. Although some may, it’s not true that we all do. Emotional, that’s the key word. Girls are known to be emotional, anyway. Emo guys usually wear long black hair, band tee’s, black eye liner, skinny jeans, converse or vans. Girls wear band tees [yep, we do.], skinny jeans, more eyeliner than guys, and converse. Ever heard of “scene kidz”? Hah, hope you have. They’re mad cool! I’d be considered emo-scene. Scenes are very colorful, they’re still emo, but more colorful -with less black. Neon colors are used; neon skinny jeans, bright converse, and of course, neon eyeliner.

Uniqueness is a big part of being scene. Scene kids usually make up their own words, and spell them different ways. They also, type differently [sometimes]. Such as; “I loubbvzz you((:.!”. Like it? I do. As you can tell, scenes also add extra letters on the end. “Loveee”, “Hiii”, “Heyy”, and anything else like that. Hairstyles for scenes are unique like I said. Girls wear “puffy” hair, with neon streaks. And guys usually just wear their normal long-black hair. Now, that you know the differences of different labels, do you think you could point them out? If you can, then I’d say my article was well written. Thanks for reading!
