Goth for Newbies
Gothic is a word most people find too frightening to imagine. To me it’s a beautiful and interesting subject to know. Goths are people that others can relate to. For instance, they have an understanding of death but don’t hate life. Goths have a lot of unique and interesting styles based on personalities. They are not afraid to face stereotypes. Goths are the same as other people and have better understandings of the unknown.
Goth is a subculture that many people are not familiar with. Goth began in the early 1980’s, in England. Although most people believe the name to come from a book, it actually came from the Germanic tribe “The Goths”. Each person has his or her own definition of the term. To me it’s a way of expressing yourself in a dark yet beautiful way. Goths have had a fascination with the darkness of life. They appreciate death more than others, enjoy life in healthier ways, and don’t take death for granted. Goths tend to think of life as only borrowed.
There are many subgenres based on personalities, each with their own views of life, fashion, and logic. For example, Victorian Goths are polite, elegant, and proper. Perky Goths are happy and prefer more color than black. Lolita Goths love the anime and dress like a doll or an anime character. Goths have many personal likes and dislikes. Goths will show their true selves no matter what people say.
Even though people are stereotypical, Goth’s will always be polite. If a child or person asks “why do you wear that costume?” Goths will simply reply that they dress like that every day. Posers will snarl and hiss. People believe Goths to be only Satanists. That is not true. Goths can be Christian, Buddhists, and many more. Goths can be lawyers, doctors, etc… They feel like that they don’t have to hide from society. This shows that people shouldn’t be afraid to show their true colors.
Goths are just like other people. Goths can live life to the fullest without drawing negative attention to them. They are not afraid to be themselves. They have many unique ways of expressing themselves. They also don’t let stereotypes get in the way of life. They are like the missing piece of a puzzle. Without it, we can’t complete our own puzzle of understanding the world, life, and even ourselves.
