Jimmy Carter once said, “We have become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.” Diversity is not only vital to our society today, but makes it very beautiful and unique.

Without diversity we would be without different foods, ideas, customs and values. Diversity adds so much color to our world. Black and white can be beautiful, but with color it immediately becomes much more exciting, striking, and eye-catching. Just like adding color to a boring picture, having diversity in America makes it much more exquisite and exhilarating.

Much of the United States’ success is credited toward the vast diversity that we have. Comprising of many people from different ethnic backgrounds provides so many more ideas. In the work force, new ideas are always the most valuable thing to possess. By bringing in new ideas into our country we are creating more opportunities for success in our future. This is so imperative to a society that thrives on making money.

By having people of different backgrounds working together, it is also developing a community that respects differences and recognizes unique contributions that they are making. Essentially this maximizes the potential of a company, thus creating a company that can become successful. Crucial skills like these- accepting others’ differences- is also very important in being united as a country.

If everyone didn’t learn how to accept one another and be able to see the beneficial contributions that everybody is making, then this society wouldn’t be the “United States”. Instead it would have chaos and fighting for who was the supreme race and sex of the country.

Diversity affects life in regard to values and beliefs too. By having people who believe in different things a country is established based upon a variety of morals and beliefs. A major indicator of a different person is the way they present themselves and live. If everyone all lived the same way, they would lose all the uniqueness that sets them apart from the remainder of the world.

By being exposed to countless traditions and morals, everyone can learn new, better ways to live their lives. Everyone is deeply influenced by the people around them, so experiencing a new, different way to live life can only improve it. Therefore with a better, happier life, everyone has better attitudes which make for a better country as a whole, which is essential in maintaining a peaceful nation.

Being original and different is so fresh and cleansing. Everyday is a different day, with different people, which makes life more interesting. Just like watching the same episode of a television show, life would get dull very fast if everybody lived, talked, and acted the same way. Diversity gives everyone different perspectives on life which gives more variety and options on how you can live your life.

This “beautiful mosaic” that the United States has become is because of all the diversity that everyone encompasses. Diversity shapes the nation through work, life and the inner self. Without this diversity, life would lose its meaning because of the lack of difference; life would be extremely dull.

With all the uniqueness combined, or all the colors put together, they can only create a lovelier picture that everybody envies to have. The importance of diversity is colossal; people would lose their uniqueness that sets every one apart from the rest of the world. This could no longer be the United States of America.
