What does it take to be a Vampire Hunter
It takes a lot to be a Vampire hunter: a mixture of personal traits, motivation, guts; you think you got what it takes?
Determination.
You must be really determined to be a vampire hunter: you must have determination not only in the face of danger, but also in the face of boredom, you’ll probably spend months at a time doing dull dirty work without any sign of progress, be it paperwork, tracking or stake outs(pardon the feeble pun), and ridicule: just try telling people what you do, and you’ll never hear the end of it.
Courage
It takes courage to hunt Vampires, both physical courage, to go into some abandoned ruins seeking a murderous undead monster, and moral courage too, to bear up under setbacks and reversals, the moral courage to face unpleasant truths without flinching.
Sacrifice
You must be prepared to sacrifice a lot in the pursuit of Vampires: your social life, your reputation, your friends and family, all these you risk losing, one way or another; even your very life you stand to lose.
Motivation
What sort of motivation? Could be anything: a sense of justice, to avenge some wrong, a hatred of the undead- these are all good reasons to take up the mantle of Hunter.
If you hunt Vampires, chances are that you will never get famous or rich; your social life will suffer, if not die out completely; you will run the constant risk of death; without some really strong personal motivation, you can’t keep on through all that.
Not that you could not try to hunt a Vampire just on a lark, or for the thrill; but without real motivation, you certainly can’t keep at it.
Brains
The thing about hunting Vampires: brute strength is not on your side; if you’re lucky, brains are. Use your head(and not just for pounding brick walls). Watch your targets carefully, pick out their weaknesses; because if you don’t use their weaknesses to destroy them, then Vampires will use their strengths to destroy you.
You don’t need to be a genius to stake an undead monster and cut off his head; common sense will do, but you gotta listen to your common sense for it to do any good!
A sense of humor
Not absolutely necessary, but it certainly helps!
Choice
Most important of all: the choice. Are you prepared to make this choice? It will affect you for the rest of your life; there’s no going back.
Martial arts, fancy gadgets and toys, dark clothing, a creepy demeanor; these are all optional. The looks don’t matter, what matters at the end of the day is that there is one less bloodsucking freak out there to prey on innocent people.
