Reasons not to Live in Algeria

Reasons not to live in Algeria

For the many countries around the world, there are different reasons given as to why people should not live in certain places.  Insecurity is one of the major reasons why not to live in a certain place.  Another reason is poverty.  Poor infrastructure and low economic growth are other reasons why people may choose not to live in certain countries.  High crime rates brought about by lack of employment and poverty are other reasons why people opt not to live in certain places.  Although all these reasons are true, political repression and religious restraint are the two main reasons why not to live in Algeria.

Algeria is a country that is ranked 2nd largest on the African continent next to the Sudan.  This is a country that boasts a history going back to the Roman Empire. Memories of its past can be seen in its cities in ruins and impressive structures bearing marks of those who once ruled and inhabited the country. The political and religious strife goes far back in the history of this country.

Algeria borders the Mediterranean Sea and provides access to both Europe and the Middle East from the African continent.  Its hilly landscape on the northern coast side provides great scenic beauty. This is where most of the Algerian population lives. The larger part of the country; about four fifths, is part of the Sahara desert and has few inhabitants.

Although Algeria is rich in history and resources (mainly natural gas and oil), it has proved to be an unwelcoming place and many of its people have moved away to live in other countries.  In the earlier years, political unrest was the cause of many deaths.  Religious battles also contributed greatly to the loss of life in Algeria.  Repressed freedom, to work, live and worship without bowing to one particular religion has been a cause for dissatisfaction among the people of Algeria.  Political and religious unrest have both proved to be destructive in Algeria, not only to the people but also to the infrastructure.

The Political oppression has been a major cause for poor economic growth leading to large cases of unemployment and abject poverty. The people of Algeria have suffered political oppression from as far back as the Roman era, and through the colonial period that ended in 1962 when the country acquired its independence from France.  The struggle to build up the country has not been easy.  Economic growth has been extremely slow causing the poverty and lack of employment to increase.  No one wants to live in a country where there is no source of income or livelihood.

Because of the influence of Islam, freedom to live and grow to fulfillment has not been possible in Algeria.   Enjoying life and advancing with the modern times has been unwelcome. This has led many Algerians to seek residence in other countries where they can live freely, with opportunities for education that is in step with the rest of the world and where employment with a good salary can be achieved without the inhibition of religion.

Subdued existence due to political and religious oppression are a conclusive summary of the obvious reasons why not to live in Algeria.
