Celebrating Diversity with various Cultures
The United States is a well-blended society of many diverse cultures. It is a primary example of what makes the country great. Language, food, fashion, and sports are all interrelated in that they share a common history of developing in different parts of the world, yet have a big place in current affairs.
Children attending public schools are now given the opportunity to learn foreign languages, interact with friends from different countries and spend time learning about cultural differences. Many parents further this educational experience by teaching cultural tolerance, and encourage their children to participate in cultural fairs and attend local festivals that celebrate diversity.
People have fortunately reached a point in social history where cultural diversity is seen as a promising, strong point. Museums host exciting exhibits promoting cultural art displays, communities create local street fairs celebrating the diversity of art, and many venues have nightly entertainment featuring a variety of multicultural music.
Sharing mixed cultures with our friends and family, allows us to learn more about ourselves and each other. We look inward with an eagerness to expand our own horizons, perhaps developing a passion for travel, or a desire to reach out to underdeveloped regions. We look at others with a tremendous respect because we know they have spent countless hours learning a new, and difficult, language. They have developed a wide palate for foods that are commonplace to us, and have taught their children how to speak multiple languages at home.
Not all cultural learning comes from learning about global diversity. Cultural observations, and learning to coexist with others, can often take place on many local levels. As awareness is raised to societal issues ranging in topic, people are given the chance to listen to their fellow neighbors about how lifestyles once deemed ‘alternative’ are blending into mainstream society. Sharing culture means sharing new ideas, different views and becoming open to new ideas, and ways of life.
In order for true peace to be established, humanity must embrace its differences along with its commonalities. Sharing excitement, motivation, and passion for others is the mode by which we travel to this ultimate goal. Participating in shared cultures serves as a vehicle to understanding fellow men, and helps people stay open-minded. Recognizing, and celebrating, various cultures and life-styles will always be a strong platform for further social development for mankind.
