As a child of religion, one is often conflicted to read between the incredulously thin line of morals and religion. No one has to be religious to have a pure path in life. It is not necessary to seek certain prophecies to find morals. To each their own; if the Lord is your savior, then to him you shall seek the answers.

A person to who knows right from wrong and often chooses to seek more meaning in their life has morals. However, often times when someone is not religious, he or she is criticized for it and marked as immoral. It is unfair, unjust or whatever you want to call it. If someone has a career goal and is unwilling to lie, cheat or steal whilst avoiding following a religious path does not make him or her a bad person.

Unfortunately, the pre-conceived notion is that religion equals morality. It is often thought by most individuals this writer encountered at least, having a religious standpoint makes a person righteous and true. It burns deep into my boiling hot core, certain people enjoy focusing all their energy into making one feel like the scum of the earth for not being religious. For the love of God and all that is good and pure why does anyone only have to seek god to be a good person. Yes I can see how ironic that last sentence just was but you all know what I mean.

As college student myself, I seek a career in journalism. Also another addition to the future I’m trying to create is having a house, a steady income, a great career, a loving husband and two beautiful children. Both parents are religious even though I am not. However, my morals and values are still intact and would very much take them with me anywhere I go.

Anyone who wants to make something of them is moral. Anyone who wishes to correct their mistakes and goes out of their way to care for others is moral. None of these people need to be so engulfed in religion to have meaning in their lives. Do not assume that only religion means to be moral. To be passionate and caring of others is to be moral as well.

So don’t fret people. Atheists and non-practicing Christians and Muslims have just as much of a moral backbone in their bodies as religious beings do.
