Why some People don’t go to College after High School

Oh education! Who’s to say that going to collage right after high school is always the best option for everyone?  There are many reasons why some people don’t go right too college after high school.  It could be that college is stinking expensive. It may also be that some have bad pre-college school experiences and need to take a brake; others decide to experience life outside of school for awhile.

The time after high school can be a very restless experience for some, it can also be a time of great uncertainty and lack of clarity as too the direction one should go as far as career is concerned.  For most, stepping right away into college can be a waist of money.  Quite a few people who don’t know what it is they want to do next go right into college and major in subjects they may or may not be interested in.  People may also end up majoring in subjects that are not good career options.  In view of that, it maybe wise for some people, to work some odd jobs as a way of understanding the direction they want to go before they pick a subject to major in.

A job right out of high school may be helpful for a future plan of college, at lest in the area of expense, some chose to start a job, and work awhile, and then follow that with college but will stop again to work more and than to school again. It may take longer, but again helps to pay for school and gives them focus on classes so they can do well. A job out of high school instead of college right away can help keep people out of debt.  The “work and pay for school as you go” plan.

Some people have had negative elementary and high school experiences. After 12 to 13 years of frustrating educational experiences the idea of another 4 to 8 years of school can be distasteful and discouraging. Working and traveling instead of heading off to college right away gives other ways of judging our intelligence than a G.P.A. It is a good thing, to not always live ones life by the Grade.

Attention span can be short when we’re younger, desire to sit in a class room and write papers and do research and study are tiresome and a waste of young energy at least, that is what some may think. More people who go to college later on in life often have the experience of real focus and drive in their studies more so than when they were young. As well, most of the time, they have a very clear direction in their educational goals and more classroom learning stamina.

Taking a job after high school instead of heading right to college can also make people more valuable to future employers. The job experience may give their resume that extra little bit of motivation to those looking at them as a potential employee in their organization or company.  Most employers want to see that you have job experience and can work well with others.

In my own experience with working before college, the odd jobs I held in the past spoke volumes to my now employer and when I asked them what most about my resume pushed them to hire me, their response to me was overwhelmingly the previous Job experience I had.

Though some of the above reasons for not going to college right away after high school are good, in the moment most people won’t see the advantages of their chose till later on, as was in my own case.  I only knew I wanted to go and do, and college didn’t seem like the right place at the time.  It has worked out beautifully for me!
