What one learns from a childhood of poverty

Living in this world is not easy and a child waking up every morning and going throughout the day without any food in his or her belly or shoes on their feet is not a good life to them. However, that is the only life they know. A child knows there is better living and living a life in poverty teaches many to want better for their children and for their future.

Poverty breeds crime when a parent steals a loaf of bread from a grocery store to feed his wife and child, and when a mother has to sell her body through prostitution so she can pay the rent is something a child learns is not something he or she wants to do as an adult. Therefore, the child might excel in school.

You learn to be strong in spirit and have faith that things will change and become better, so a child might strive to be the best so that poverty will not be in his or her life forever. Finishing high school and going to college or getting career training can be the best path away from poverty.

My mother lived in poverty, she told many stories about how she, her brothers and sisters would find food at the city dump and bring home food for their mother to prepare for them or that their mother would get dirt cheap material when their dad would get a little money from cutting someones lawn, and she would make patterns out of paper bags so that her children would have clothes to wear to school.

In life everyone has different experiences, and with some their experiences are far more worse than anyone else’s. A child who suffers a life of poverty will grow to have learned so much of what life shouldn’t be in order to have a safe and comfortable life. Otherwise keeping in mind that their parents did the best they were able to do.

Unfortunately, some children blame their parents for living in poverty and in those cases where a parent had better choices, but chose to let their family suffer, they should be blamed, but a child shouldn’t use that as an excuse not to try for themselves. All anyone can do is do the best that they can and if you fail at one thing, try something different so that your survival in this world will be successful.
