Society has a rampant crime rate. Society seems to be plagued with people who don’t give a damn about each other. Society is composed of the haves and the have not. There are drunken derelicts on the street. There are adults exploiting children in this society. It may seem to some that morality is going out of style in this society today. Yet, morality is a condition of the spirit and will never go out of style in the majority of human beings in this society. Morality is a deliberate preference for what is right and the persistence to choose and follow it.

The problem with understanding morality. Morality is an individual concept. Morality should be taught to children at home and instilled by their own parents. The lessons of morality, the lessons of right and wrong should be embedded in children at a very early age. This way the influence of society won’t deter a person’s moral conduct. The influence of social media is challenging the beliefs that were instilled in the children of this society.

Morality is defined as the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior and also societies particular system of values and principles of conduct. Therefore, according to society the exploitation of children is morally wrong. Then why are children exploited in the media? Why are children coerced into thinking sexy is cool. Alas, this is the mindset of some people and not society as a whole.

This question should be explored, “What is the moral condition of society today?” Certainly, it’s not always easy to be politically correct or have moral conduct in this society. This state of political correctness seems to have replaced morality. Surely, some teens may have a live and let live attitude about life and it may be viewed as politically correct, yet it is an immoral way of viewing life. “To each his own”, may be the motto of some people in this society. However, if it has a negative effect on others, then it’s not good or moral to engage in that practice.  

Society may not know what morals are. However, certainly everyone in society knows the difference from right and wrong. Don’t they? You would be surprised at the various concepts of morality in this society. The recent scandal in baseball, with all of the lies about illicit drug use. Baseball was once touted as the all-American, mom and apple pie sport. It is now played by players who will resort to anything to win. By any means necessary, including taking illegal harmful drugs for the sake of winning. What happened to their moral conduct?

The politicians are setting an example of morality gone awry. They are lying to the voters, misappropriating campaign funds, as in the case of Congressmen, Jesse Jackson Jr. What is society to do about these immoral conscious acts of betrayal against the people. Only time will tell how this will all play out in this society.

The moral condition of society appears to be a matter of perception. How should society deal with their perception? Simply, society should always consider members of their society and strive to always do the right thing.
