Top Reasons to not Remain Silent

No, there are many instances when people should not remain silent. Below you will find some issues when it is not beneficial to remain silent:

If it comes to our attention that one of our family members is dating date someone who is selling drugs our silence can destroy their lives if we remain silent.

If we are aware of the fact that the people next door and/or a family member is abusing their children, by physically beating or sexually abusing them we should never remain silent.

If one of our friends constantly talks about killing themselves, we should do all we can to get them the medical help they need?

If we live next to a family that owns three cars, lives like wealthy people where all are working and at the same time, they are collecting SSI, or someone is on disability and working off the books we should either try and show them how they are abusing the system or report them.

If we work for any political leaders and they have people on the payroll who do not exist and checks are being paid to these people every week we should report them.

If we work in operating rooms and the surgeon comes in high or intoxicated we should report them. The same rule should apply to anyone who is responsible for the lives of others such as pilots, drivers of automobiles and/or boats.

If we know a married person is dating any of our friends and they are not aware of that fact, we should advise them.

Unfortunately, in this society when someone does speak up, they are labeled whistle-blowers and their lives can be ruined instead of being rewarded as caring human beings who had the courage to speak up and try to correct a dishonest or immoral condition.

Our responsibility should be to correct various situations that are harmful to those other human beings. In many instances we may be told to mind our own business, but we will know that we did all in our power to correct these problems. In that regard we will at least have clear consciences and be able to live with ourselves should something horrible happen to the people we were trying to help. i.e. an abused child, a crash killing others, a medical procedure going wrong.

Where would we be if throughout history no one ever took a stand for injustice as in the situation of Slavery be it Moses, Abraham Lincoln, Roosevelt, Martin Luther King and all the other people throughout every era who were willing to stand up for issues that were abusing other human beings.

Many have given up their jobs, high salaries, friends and even their lives because they were not afraid to fight for the rights of their fellow human beings enabling them to become free from such inhumane treatment.

Many people even today still fight for freedom of religion; the right to be born; the right to earn a good living; the right to receive good medical treatment; the right to have an opinion different from their neighbors and the right to die with dignity.

Do we belong to the group who fights for the issues we believe in or do you keep silent allowing others to have their voices heard while ours remains silent?

If we look throughout history we will realize that to keep our voices silence is the main goal of tyrants, dictators and many corporations such as the cigarette manufactures who want to keep the truth from the public.

Of course, there are times when it is better to say nothing concerning someone’s color scheme, hairstyle, taste in clothes because we know that our speaking serves no purpose except to hurt someone’s feelings.
