The Money Train of Personal Values
This is a question that has many pondering why they chose to follow money over the course of the last twenty or thirty years. It is amazing what happens when a whole society takes its eyes off their personal values and focuses on pursuing money. It’s like a train heading down the tracks knowing that the bridge is out and the conductor says, “I’ll bet if we can get going fast enough, we can make to the other side.” There seems to be an illusion that money can rebuild a bridge that was built on morals and values. The train and the tracks it runs on are of equal importance. The tracks are always built before the train can move. The conductor is always looking forward making sure these tracks are safe for the train to proceed down the tracks. This is the beginning of why personal values are more important than money.
Personal values are like the ties that hold down the rails, each and every value that is created in our lives are important. They connect us to the earth. But even personal values must have a bed to lie on to insure that if the ground moves, the ties don’t move. We are living in a society today that has forgotten to lay a good bed down upon which we can insure the trains of our personal lives don’t jump the tracks. Remove God from the schools, allow personal values to be corrupted in the name of progress or because money dictates how we should conduct our lives. Yes, personal values are a key, not the only key, but one that if used correctly, will give individuals the ability to keep train wrecks from happening in their lives.
Shouldn’t we be asking the question, “Why are we pursuing money”? What is the guiding factor in this choice? When one pursues money, is it ever enough? When money is used for personal gain it quickly corrupts the mind of the person that possesses it. Personal values are laid aside and the rails are removed from which guides the train of life. Money in and of itself is not the problem; it’s the person who holds this money that is responsible for the correct use of it. When the proper rails are laid down, the money train will follow. It’s a principle when followed will make not only ensure personal security but will keep others around them safe also. Train wrecks don’t just affect one person; many on the train will suffer too. When people conduct themselves by their personal values it creates a safe society, when not even a society will fail.
