The Importance of Education in the World Today
Life is very fast-paced these days. Many people have to juggle work, school, family, and home. With the increase in time comes the need for an increase in knowledge.
Nearly all adults have some type of post-secondary education, whether it be trade school, certificates, associate’s degrees, or more. And usually it is much more. Bachelor’s degrees are now the average level of education for adults. As time progresses, the education required to comfortably survive in this world will too increase.
With the advancement of time comes the advancement in knowledge and technology. Scientists, doctors, researchers, and technicians discover new methods, organisms, facts, information, and terminology, to increase human knowledge. This leads to the ability to learn about additional valuable aspects of the world. Knowledge, like time, is vast and abstract, possibly never-ending.
Competition is at its peak in regards to people, colleges, and employment—and it’s all because of education and knowledge. People compete for the highest-paying positions, the most productive workers, the largest salaries, the best schools, and the most compatible companions. We must have advanced degrees from prestigious colleges in order to get far. Liberal Arts majors and Associate’s Degrees are no longer sufficient to live comfortably in today’s society.
The process of obtaining education and succeeding in the workplace is more demanding and less rewarding, because there is very little time to relax. In fact, relaxing is now often compared to laziness and weakness. On the other hand, individuals who work overtime and skip their lunch breaks, or those who stay up unreasonably late to study for tests, are considered winning employees and exceptional students. That is likely so, but they are also exhausted and overwhelmed from their performance.
Increasing knowledge is a path that will continue for generations to come. Computers, the Internet, and cell phones allow people to more efficiently communicate and obtain information. There are virtual classrooms, instant messaging, online libraries, and so on—all within our reach.
As a society, we have evolved, and therefore, grown accustomed to these fast-paced living, working, and learning conditions. Although, there are still positive aspects of it. Gaining knowledge is fun and liberating and, because we are all subjected to the world and able to learn, we can gain knowledge about anything we desire.
Education may be more advanced now, but all aspects of life are more complicated. Society and education can only be compared to the time in which it was experienced.
