The Fathers Role in an Abortion - Yes

When it comes to abortion, most people have an opinion-one way or the other. Both sides of the argument have a reason why they are for or against it and people on both sides can get pretty emotional about the topic. Although many people have many opinions on the subject, it comes down to the two people who must make a decision for themselves regarding the future of their unborn child. The decision must be a joint decision that is made by both people, but I do believe that the final decision should be made by the woman because in the end, the woman is the person who will either be going through the procedure to get the abortion or to follow through and give birth to a baby. It is her body that will need to endure all of the necessary tests and changes and medications that are necessary-regardless of which path that she chooses to take.

If the woman has some type of medical problem that will be complicated by pregnancy and/or giving birth, then she must choose whether the risk to herself and potentially her unborn child is worth it if she has a greater chance of death or the death of her child. If one or both parents of the child have genetic defects that run in their family, this will also need to be taken into consideration. We have all heard the stories of the promiscuous woman who gets pregnant and does not know for sure who the father of her child is. This type of situation may bring about the subject of an abortion because the likelihood of getting one or more of these guys to take a test or to be there for the child is less in this type of situation, especially if the woman is in a relationship with a man who will not continue to be with her if the child is not his.

Although the decision should mostly fall on the woman to have an abortion, the man should always have an oppurtunity to voice his opinion and have it considered when making a choice. If the father of the child states that he will not be there for the child, the woman needs to realize that she will probably be taking care of the child by herself. If the father wants the woman to keep the child, that should also be taken into consideration. If a man wants to raise his child, he should be able to do so whether the mother wants to help raise the child or not. There are plenty of children in the world who have been raised by single fathers for one reason or another and most of them do just as good of a job as the mother would and sometimes they do better.

While there are many reasons that a woman may consider having an abortion, if the father is involved with the woman trying to decide, he should be able to offer his opinion for consideration either way. One alternative to having an abortion is to give the child up for adoption once it is born. In many situations, the birth mother will even be able to choose the family that the child is given to. Although it may be a difficult decision, being able to decide who will care for your child will help to ease some of the pain and anxiety that giving a child up for adoption may bring. Some adoptive parents will even send updates on the child as it grows up and becomes an adult. There are several options for adoption and more are becoming available as time goes on. There are many couples who are unable to have their own children and adopting a child may be their only chance at becoming parents.
