Respect the Elderly appreciate the Elderly
Respect for the ELDERLY
Old age, a lot of people fret at hearing these two words. What is it in an old age that a lot of people fear? Is it because older folks are assumed to be slow pokes, slow at learning, worthless, non-performing, and weak?
The usual assumptions of people that are generally not true. Our brains capacity is not to be measured according to age. Even at 50 our brain is still in perfect condition it may be slower but the capacity of our brain to learn is timeless.
Slow pokes? Only those who have arthritis, usually their usual pace when they were younger that is still their pace when they grow older. What do they mean by non-performing and weak? Usually older folks are involved in charity, they’re more stable (financially) than new graduates, and they’re into gardening. They do a lot of work daily and some of them are good role models in communities.
Oldies are more conscious of their diet, their health. They watch what they eat, and they exercise. How does this old folks stay active and healthy even at an old age? They do regular exercise. They do gardening. Live healthy by using bike as way of transportation or walking daily than driving. Some involve themselves in learning something new. Like new language, new active sport, new skill. Avoid exhaustion and stress to stay healthy. Socialize with other people, young and old. They share what they have learned with the younger generations. They do volunteering work and sometimes take care of their grandchildren when parents are away working. They do a lot of stuff than just sit around in front of the television set or send out text messages to friends. They know how to socialize and treat other people in face-to-face conversations. They’re more productive than younger people. Who are left at home to take care of the kids when mom and dad has to work? Grandma baby-sits her grandchildren, and her effort and works are not appreciated? Instead they are mistreated and ignored.
It doesn’t mean that you’re age 50 and above you are worthless. It doesn’t have to be that way. You can do something to change this worldwide attitude towards aging. Everyone age, we will grow old no ones an exemption. Don’t let the fear of aging consume you. Enjoy life and stay healthy and age gracefully.
