Inconsiderate Behavior
Being inconsiderate is doing something or not doing something without considering how it will affect another person. We have all had to deal with inconsiderate individuals at some point or another in our lives. We may have even been inconsiderate, sometimes unknowingly. The following are some of the most common and/or worst inconsiderate behaviors that we can commit or be subjected to.
Very little is more inconsiderate than being late for anything without bothering to call and/or without a good reason. Just like money, time does not grow on trees. Many of us are too busy to spend time sitting around waiting for someone else to arrive. Not bothering to call the person who is waiting for you or make sufficient plans to be sure you are on time without good reason is tantamount to stealing time away from them. This is even worse when the person who is waiting for you is doing you a favor.
Have you ever been out somewhere where there is limited seating and you see a healthy, young person sitting while an elderly or sickly person is forced to stand? The young, healthy person in the above scenario is being inconsiderate. It would be nice if people would think of others before, or at least while, they are thinking of themselves.
Not offering help to someone who obviously needs it when you have the time and ability to help is not necessarily inconsiderate, but it can be. Let us say that you are at a friend’s house and they are trying to move a heavy piece of furniture. You have nothing to do that day and you are in good enough health to help. What do you do? Do you leave to avoid helping or do you offer your assistance? A considerate person would offer to help. Of course, there are situations that do not warrant considerate behavior. A considerate person would be on the lookout for those that do.
In my opinion, nothing says inconsiderate like blatantly ignoring someone. Examples of this kind of inconsiderate person are, a person who cuts you in line without so much as a word, a person whose grocery cart smashes yours and not so much as an excuse me, let alone a sorry, passes their lips or worse, a person in the customer service industry who ignores a customer who is obviously in need.
Being an inconsiderate neighbor is among the most bothersome of inconsiderate behaviors. Letting your animals go to the bathroom in another person’s yard is very inconsiderate. Allowing your visitors to park on the front of another person’s lawn is inconsiderate. Having loud parties, etc., is very inconsiderate.
These are only some of countless ways a person could be inconsiderate. It is important for everyone to do their best to consider the effect their actions have on other people. It is not always easy and we can be inconsiderate without knowing it, at times. However, that does not mean that we should never consider other people. Just think about how you feel when one of these inconsiderate behaviors affects you. I hope that you do not want to make someone else feel that way.
