How to Gain Wisdom

The number of years a person is alive does not necessarily dictate their level of wisdom. In order to gain wisdom you must live a full life, engage in activities and seek out knowledge. A person can live for a long time without ever really experiencing any of those things.

To gain wisdom you must live life and not just be a spectator. Go out and live life by doing things in the world. Be an explorer and explore other parts of your county, or go out and explore other countries. There are many opportunities for you to go out and explore your world. This knowledge of the world does not come from just sitting idly in your home but by leaving it and exploring what is beyond those comforting walls. You don’t need to be aged to gain worldly knowledge but can gain this knowledge at any time you choose.

Engage your mind and senses by trying new things. Build, paint and create. Join classes and clubs and explore all points of interest. You do not need to be aged in order to do these things. Your local community centre is likely to have woodcraft, pottery, dance or cooking classes that can help you expand your knowledge. The internet and local library are fountains of information just waiting for you to grab hold of and use to expand your knowledge. By trying new things, failing and learning from those mistakes to succeed, you are gaining experience and knowledge that comes with exploring and engaging the world. You don’t need to be old in order to do any of those things.

There is very little knowledge gained by sitting on the sidelines just watching. It is much better to try new things and fail and learn from those failures than to sit by behind the safety lines watching others.  Interacting with different people, cultures, religions and activities can offer many opportunities to a person. Reading about different subjects can help guide your knowledge but there is no substitute for first hand experience. In order to gain wisdom with your years you must embrace things around you and when you do not understand something, seek out the answers. In this modern age it is very easy to gain information about subjects you are curious about.

Just because a person is older does not mean they have gained any kind of insight or knowledge. A younger more active and engaging person can gain a lot through their experiences in life. Age does not mean a life lived but is rather a statement of endurance. Wisdom is knowledge gained through experience and age does not necessarily equal experience.
