Every Generation can be Indicted for Selfish Behaviors

There is a  strong indication that the current generation believes that they are entitled to the good life, while putting forth very little effort to obtain this “good life”. This current generation may even believe that the world revolves around them. This narcissistic viewpoint has been revealed in recent studies. This entitled generation has become totally dependent on technology because it’s faster, easier and it doesn’t rely on empathy or compassion towards others to function in this insane fast-paced world.

Let’s face it, the current generation is surrounded with electronic devices with the pronoun ‘I’.  It’s no wonder they feel entitled and full of themselves as they maneuver through this world with their I-phones and I-pads and I-pods. ‘I’ is a singular and somewhat narcissistic pronoun. The fact, that even young children are demanding I-phones to keep in touch is ludicrous. Perhaps this current generation is only viewing their wants and needs and canceling out the theory that we’re all in this world together. It’s clear, information technology has advanced this generation beyond what the preceding generation could ever imagine. Indeed, it’s mind-boggling and may render the reason why this current generation seems so narcissistic.

The generation before this current generation was also known as a selfish generation. So each generation presents their own unique set of personality flaws according to the generation preceding them. Generation X was known as the directionless and disaffected generation. It appears that each new generation has some very disqualifying characteristics. Generation X, the ‘me’ generation is now replaced with the ‘I’ generation or so it seems.

Consider, the cost of living and this hurried fast-paced, competitive world that exist today. Surely, these factors have contributed to the, “I better get mine” mindset that is so prevalent amongst this current narcissistic generation. This new generation had better be on the fast track or soon they would get left behind by the latest technology.

Even Facebook is an over-blown, ego-centric, social network. Really? Who do you think is that interested in your every day life? Why should any one tweet their day hour by hour?

Society has manifested a monster on the social networks. Cars, clothes and technology has replaced spirituality with most people of this generation. Alas, concerning yourself with your own problems and focusing entirely on yourself all of the time may render this generation in a dangerous quagmire and all washed- up eventually. History does repeat itself.

It’s true, that this current generation is highly educated and highly motivated to achieve much higher status than their predecessors. There isn’t anything wrong with achievement. However, there is something wrong with abandoning your morals to obtain everything that you feel you are entitled to. There is no such beast as entitlement. Everyone should aspire to better themselves, no matter which generation they’re born into.

Technology is an advancement in our current society that has forged the way for vast achievements to this new generation. However, please recall, “to whom much is given, much is required.”
