Encouraging Donation to Charity

Giving to Charity

There are two main reasons that people give to charity. One group is individuals that can relate to the need. The second groups benefits from the tax code. Another group does not relate or benefit.  The third population is the target population charity needs to coax to help.

Group One

Many people want to pass forward kindnesses that a person experienced.  One way for them to do it is to give to a charity that helped them.  Charities should easily make it possible for these people to return the kindness.  Never should a charity view them as secondary and always the recipient.  A charity that does not help build on the individuals that they serve becomes self-serving, but does not understand the benefit of the services provided. A national charity for many years had a logo that showed a half person, but now they are showing a person with a job on some of the charity’s vans.  The change in attitude can encourage the third group to give to charity instead of encouraging negative attitude towards individuals receiving services.

When a disaster occurs the first to bring items to a shelter frequently are individuals who survived a hurricane or some other disaster.  One group of people surviving a storm heard the President of the United States was in the area, they saw a limousine drive in to the tent camp and thought maybe the President of the country was coming to check on them.  Instead, a limousine company owner had been in a similar position and brought supplies.  The President never visited the camp and many stated he never understood the problems of the common person.

Group Two

The Internal Revenue Code offers a tax write off to individuals for donations made, but the income must reach a certain level.  Most Americans do not reach this level. The George W. Bush presidential campaign believed the tax code should be changed to give everyone the option for a charity tax write offs. With charities, being added sources they would provide all the social services necessary rather than government. This did not occur and most people need to be encouraged to donate even though no benefit existed or exists for the individual.

Group Three

Since most groups do not have the tax advantage and have been grateful that they did not need charity, this is the group charity must encourage to donate. They must illustrate the benefit their programs have to society in general.  This in many ways is the philosophy that George W. Bush viewed as societies way to address social issues.. With charities Americans would directly illustrate what direction the nation need to progress in aid to the needy.

The  problem is who decides the direction. If you do not relate maybe selection of charities would come from other benefits. May be donations to the charity would come through charity and partnership. Some donors make donations with string attached that will benefit them. This doubles as a charity donation and business partnership.  It gets donation to charity is something we need to help each other.  Caring for each other empowers the recipients and us.
