Does a Persons Past Behaviour and Reputation Reflect who they are Today - No
Within today’s society what someone has done in the past can follow them into the present. Society today likes to judge and package people. It likes to place people into certain boxes, and those boxes are then ticked off and filed away for future reference. The world we live in is not a world that is made up of people, but rather, of statistics and numbers.
A person is a number with no feeling to be had. Placed within a document that is kept from their eyes, to be viewed by those in authority. And God forbid anything negative we have ever done in the past will inevitably come back to hit us full force. Whether we like it or not, what we do in the past has an affect on our future life today. There are many who would say that what we did in the past should not be held against us now. That in the past, we were completely different to how we are now.
In theory, this should be the case, but theory rarely plays its part within today’s society. People are forever judged, by their past misdemeanours - whether we have changed or not. And it is this pre-judgement of people that can see people never given a second chance. People do change over the years, indeed it is nature, however should their past behaviour and reputation go before them now? If one was to say yes, then that is like saying that a person can never change, and can never be given another chance in life.
Yet there are far too many people within this society who are only too willing to judge a person first - based on their past - rather than judging them now within the present time. Of course the theory goes that judging a person’s past gives us a better understanding of what that person’s character is, how they will interact with people, and how they will cope with life in general.
But does it? How can we possibly judge a person by what they may or may not have done in the past? Is it fair or even just to do such a thing? Well, in the present day, it is fair. Human beings - being what we are - naturally judge others even before we have met them. But it does not mean that how a person was in the past, reflects how they are today.
People change, and in the vast majority of cases their behaviour changes over the years. However, there are millions of people, around the world who are not given a chance in life due to their past. Until people find it within their hearts to give others a chance in life, then their past and reputation will always go before them within this society.
