Are Homeless Shelters Bad or Good - No
The American economic system is collapsing. Our jobs have been outsourced to cheap labor markets, such as China and the Far East; our bridges are collapsing, and even rail-lines are falling apart. Places such as Detroit, Michigan have become urban war-zones, where even the police are afraid to go into certain areas. And with a collapsing economy, comes out-of-control homelessness.
The ‘money-for-free’ housing and mortgage loans artificially boosted the economy for a while. But that was all a fake, created growth bubble that has now burst. Millions of homes sit empty, in foreclosure, with their former residents now sleeping on the streets, in their cars, or on the couches or garages of friends who still have homes.
People in America own absolutely nothing. They think they may own their houses, but they are always paying on the interest, never the principal. Their cars are owned by the banks; even their furniture and appliances are bought on credit! And just stop paying your property taxes, and you will quickly discover who really owns your house and property; the criminal banks, backed up by the Sheriff’s Office!
When a person becomes homeless for the first time, it is generally a fairly traumatic experience. Some people can adapt, but others are traumatized by the event. You will quickly lose all your belongings and property, depending on how much ‘stuff’ you have. You will have to either sell it, give it away, or put into storage. It is amazing the amount of stuff a homeless person drags around with them! Americans are certainly addicted to ‘stuff’ (most of it made by Chinese slave-labor and sold at Wally Mart!).
The next step for a first-time homeless person is shelter; where to stay. The streets can be very dangerous, especially at night, and some cities are far more dangerous than others. Eventually the homeless person will locate a local shelter. And that is where the controversy begins.
There isn’t enough space here to detail all the abuses that occur in homeless shelters. Just do a casual Google search will result in thousands of news stories on the sorts of criminal activities that occur in homeless shelters; from assault to rape to drug dealing, prostitution, sex perverts, child molesters, mentally deranged, violent psychopaths, the list goes on.
The shelter employees may not be much better than the guests. Each shelter is unique, so we can’t generalize to all shelters. But some homeless shelter workers are extremely abusive to the guests. Rapes, robberies, and assaults have occurred by shelter workers against the guests. The conditions of the toilets and showers can only be left to the imagination. Shelter toilets/showers are notorious for homosexual activity.
The solution to homelessness is affordable housing and good paying jobs. There absolutely is not a shortage of resources; rather it is a political and corporate issue. The answer to homelessness is a topic for another debate.
If people who have never been homeless want to get a real-life perspective, information, videos, and interviews with those who are sympathetic to the issues of homelessness, I highly recommend :
Invisible People. The stories told here will break your heart. National homeless issues can be found at the National Coalition for the Homeless. God Bless.
