Are Beautiful People Happier than Plain

We idolize people with seemingly perfect skin and physiques. “Plain” people without full lips and eyes or who are shorter than average, or are just too lanky, desire to be like those in magazines. Saying to themselves, if only I was like her, or if only I was like him. These people in magazines are expected to be perfect, they are not allowed to have flaws. They are displayed for the perfection. Even if you weren’t in a magazine, as long as you are beautiful, somebody is bound to be jealous of your beauty.

Since you are beautiful, there is pressure to be beautiful. If you gain one pound, lose a little muscle, have a bad hair cut, or get one pimple, you are criticized beyond belief. People will mock you for a slight imperfection. When one thinks about being beautiful, they imagine all the famous people who were paid just to be beautiful and how “easy” their life must be. What people don’t realize is that because you look overly decent, a cruel person will take advantage of you or criticize you relentlessly because you are expected to be pretty. In many cases during business, a person will subjugate a person and abuse them sexually, just because they want to because they find them exceedingly good looking.

In reality, though you want to be pretty and have all the girls or guys chasing after you, it can be a hassle. You might end up thinking too highly of yourself, breaking many people’s hearts, lose your morals, or have your self-esteem lowered despite your looks. Many men and women rely solely on looks themselves because they don’t know any better. Being plain, you can focus on a lot more and possibly get further in life because you were more focused on learning life skills rather than learning how to flip your hair in a certain way to make everybody swoon.

All in all, being beautiful is not bad, but it is certainly difficult to accomplish and be able to withstand. You have to take care of your skin and watch what you eat. You have a very restricted life. Instead of standing out to the whole world, where you can be openly mocked and exploited, and there will be people who want to exploit beauty for the worst, it is easier to be noticed by a few special people instead. You should never have to be beautiful for anyone other than yourself.
