Youth Crime and Violence inner City Youth Youth Empowerment help for the Troubled Youth Gangs
The Lost generation can be classified has young persons born between the years of 1975 to 1995. There is still much to be uncovered for this generation. This lost generation is a world-wide epidemic of all sorts of ill wills. The youth troubles of today can not be categorized as problems of the inner-cities of urban Americas. Countries across the world are reporting problems with their youth in this area.
There was a time, where people was blaming the problems of this generation on issues such as, single parents, or financially disadvantage families, and just flat out a product of their environment. The truth is, it is simple a lack of parenting skills or lack of there of. During the period of time inwhich these children were born, parents worked and or went back to school, so enough time was not offered to raise or cultivate this child into being a productive young adult in society. These children were raised by grandparents or system parenting, placed by the govenments. Young,Single parents, in particular the teen age parents, which was very high during that time, had no parenting skills, shoved their children infront of the television, sent them off to daycare and dropped them off at friends or relatives homes. Most of these children were being raised by children. The family structure became disadvantaged. As these children became teen agers to young adults, they would become victims of peer pressure. Public school system is highly manifested in peer pressure in comparison to private schools. The peer pressure and the need to belong began to create a different personality than the young child that you had always known. Sometimes the peer pressure so deep that the child can not ask for help, fear of either embarassment at school or bodily harm or injury as a result of “snitching” as they call it or telling a parent or an authority figure.
When the child has to reduce his or her moral standards to peer pressure, this child lives with constant fear and frustration and confused about the right choices to make. Sometimes children are forced into doing things against his or her will in order to just go to school and try to learn everyday. All sorts of criminal acts are occuring in our public schools, including rape, robbery, theft , beyond the old days of bullying to all out life threatening events.
Issues facing teenagers and gangs. Normally this is discovered that the child has a relative that was in gang related acts or gang related associations. The child sees this has being an honorable affiliation. The child views this association as a way to get respect from peers at school. There fore this child re enacts certain types of gang related activities, just to merely draw attention to him or herself. In most cases where teen agers get involved in gang related activities is due to peer pressure and to inflict fear on someone that he or she does not like. Sometimes they become affiliated with these gangs for the need to be protected from someone that does not like him or her. This become a vicious cycle. These children are educated enough to know that they will be in some sort of youth detention program, maybe in and out of jail until they are 18 years of age. They also believe that they can not go to prison before the age of 18 years of age, for any criminal acts. Murders committed by young adults are subject to local , and state laws. This is the prime reason why these young criminal offenders continue time and time again to committ these acts.
Gang related issues beyond age of 18. Normall there is a history of criminal activties on this type of young adult. This young adult seems to feel abandoned by their family. There is no place for this young adult to go but to a gang related association and continue the perpetual cycle of in and out of jail and or prison. it is nearly for the feeling of the need to feel like they belong.
our young adults need more guidence, it is up to everyone to play a role in guiding our youth in direction of becoming productive young people in society. It is also the young adult, who needs to look at his or her life and ask one self do I want to live my life as a criminal? Do I want to make a difference in my life? How would I want to be remembered by my family? What steps can I take to support my self or my family ? What can I do to begin to feel better about my life? How do I begin to live a better life for my self? Where can I find those answers? and Who will help me ? They must ask themselves , what can I do to end this cycle and become a model citizen. One must know that when you get a criminal record, no one will hire you for a job. Long gone are the days where you could work “Under the Table” for jobs.
The young adult must reach out and ask for help. Help is here. There is help at the church for starters. There is help at the police depts. Just ask to speak to a Juvenile Detective in the Juvenile Police Dept. These people are trained and no how to find help for trouble youth. For adults, one must make a conscious effort to take the necessary steps to become productive. It can start by applying for classes at the local community or vocational colleges. Geting an education makes all the difference in the world.
Not to worry about finance, the government has financial aid that will assist you. Focus on getting a job that can assist you with paying additional tuition and fees. The more education you have the more you are marketable and people will be willing to hire you for a job. Turning your live around may not be easy, but the first step is trying.
It is unfortunate but true that the youths in this age group are highly labled as unreliable, no respect for adults and no consideration for other people. It is difficult to get hired for any job by small to large size corporations.
The school system will need to do more. One way is to offer Job counseling, Job Training, Mental Counseling and therepy to determine if they are fit to go to work or to continue their education. There needs to be a mandatory course on Personal Finance in the senior year of high school. Guidence counselors will need to go the extra mile for students that have the potential to become productive and can not reach out. Guidence Counselors will need to spend extra time with these children in order to give them the tools that they will need to become productive in society.
We won’t blame it on the school system, as I mentioned previously, lack of parenting skills.
Parents will need to do their job. They must talk to their children. At the begining of each week set a goal as to what you think your child needs to learn in order to devlop them into becoming productive and innovative thinkers. So when they become independent you have given them the tools they can use in society. It is called the Basic Survival skills. This is important as your complete cooperation and insight will boost their self-estem and will reflect in their confidence levels. Focus on relationship building, How to handle money, public speaking and other family matters. Express the importance of trust and respect. These are just to name a few, for starters.
