The cost of disorganization
Disorganization may seem like a hassle to some, but once it is realized just how much it affects their finances, it becomes something to be reckoned with. Disorganization will most certainly have an adverse affect upon the finances of an organization or an individual.
Being disorganized comes in a variety of forms all affecting the efficiency and quality of which anything is accomplished. This affects people’s time, things, productivity, and relationships.
Time
It is imperative to have a mastery of time or else it will have mastery over you. There will never be enough of it, if it is not organized wisely. First, evaluate how you spend your time or how time is utilized by your company. Are you running two and fro without a moment to rest and still not being productive? If so, there is most likely a time problem.
Organize your day into time slots allotting like duties to portions of time. This allows you to focus on one kind of thing at a time, such as phone calls or e-mails before moving on to paperwork or running errands. This works more effectively than multi-tasking. Sometimes multi-tasking can be achieved, but only if you have the basics of time management down first. Don’t juggle three balls at once, when you are still mastering how to do the three things one at a time.
Quality needs to exceed expediency. If the thing is not done right the first time, it will come back to take away more time later on when you aren’t expecting it. This causes a greater waste of time than the time thought to be saved by practicing expediency at the expense of quality. Therefore, time management involves doing things well the first time.
Things
It is also essential to organize your things, either personally or corporately. Have things in good order. Everything from personal desks, to storage closets, books, accounting, filing, etc., needs to be in good order. All things need to be in their proper place and labels affixed where necessary. If things are strewn about in a haphazard fashion, you can misplace items or important documents causing a waste of energy, time, and money.
One will not need to replace items or waste company time searching for important documents if they are organized properly. If you are not well-gifted in organization ask for the help of a consultant for your company or your life. Organizing your things will go far in solving the problem of disorganization affecting your wallet.
Productivity
Once time and things are in their proper order, productivity will increase. You will find that you and your company have more time to do more projects effectively than ever before. This enhances the morale of your company and increases the revenue with less waste of resources. You will find the expenses becoming minimized and a maximizing of profits.
People/Relationships
Being well-organized will lend itself to greater opportunities of practicing good people skills. You will have more time to talk to your employees, friends, associates, and family if your life is well organized. This may not be a financial benefit, but it will enhance your life and your ability to interact well with other business leaders in your community. This will increase your reach into aiding the community at large as you gain time to care about life beyond the walls of your business or home.
Following these simple guidelines should create a pleasant work environment, decrease unwanted expenditures and increase desired profits. Disorganization is an unhealthy life style; start today putting your time and things in order to increase productivity and healthy relationships with others. It will truly make a world of difference in how you enjoy life.
