Teen Drug use

In todays society, a lot of teens use drugs. The truth is, there are very few who haven’t at least tried some for of drugs in their life. Drugs are readily available to today’s teens. If they want to try drugs, it is not that hared to get a hold of some form of narcotic substance. The real question we should ask is why each teen uses drugs. They all have different reasons. Many of the teens I know that have used drugs have given me different reasons why they tried drugs, and why they continue to do drugs.

I was talking to one teen that was widely known as a “pothead”, as they are so often called. He informed me that the reason that he used drugs was because it made him feel alive. He said that he did not have enough stimulation in his life, so he turned to drugs to help him have a little fun. I have talked to other teens who have said that they use drugs because their friends do them too. Yet, other teens say they have used drugs because their parents use them and it is a normal thing in their home.

There are so many reasons that some may never know about why teens use drugs. The problem we face is that no matter how hard we try, we will never fully eliminate teen drug use. We pretty much have to leave it to the teen that is using their drug of choice to realize that using drugs is a serious health risk. When they realize that, then all we can do is to help them clean themselves up and get on the wagon. We can spread the word that drugs are bad, but the truth is that it is all up to the teens themselves.

I do think that society does have a big part to play in drug use in teens today. Certain teens that grow up in certain circumstances are more likely to use drugs, mainly because everybody around them uses drugs as well. That doesn’t mean that only kids that grow up in only those places are the only ones that will use drugs, it just means that it is more widely accepted in those social circles.

The real truth is that we may never know why teens use drugs, but the fact is that many teens do. We must keep fighting against drugs and do all we can to spread the word to prevent more teens from becoming addicted. Once someone is addicted, the road to recovery becomes extremely difficult. We must do what we can to those who are addicted and want to recover, and those who are not yet addicted to prevent their addiction. If we can save some from addiction, then they may be able to help those who are still addicted. Often times, those who have been through the storm are the best ones for those in the storm to talk to. We just have to keep fighting.
