Rural Life and its Advantages

Depending on your own personal experiences, the advantages of rural life are actually more than comparable to the advantages of urban life. This is especially true if you have the right frame of mind to appreciate just how calm and casual life can be outside of a city setting. What it comes down to is the value that each person places on convenience and what you consider a convenience to be.

For strictly urban people, variety is their life, not only the spice of it. But variety and the overwhelming abundance of choice can often become stressful if not downright annoying. The convenience of so many choices becomes its own inconvenience and there is always a place people retreat to when it becomes too much. They inevitably return to nature, the rural life. Some people from the city may not entirely understand rural life but they still find it wholly enjoyable and relaxing. Rural living is so much closer to nature and the uncomplicated existence that all human beings crave.

I would say that one major convenience of rural life is a simple lack of background noise. This is true because the incessant car horns, sirens, machines and other urban distractions can get very tiresome, very fast. In rural settings, the silence at night is golden and the only noises that echo across the fields, hills, mountains and forests are the sounds of nature. You’ll find these sounds to be quite similar to the relaxation CDs that urban people buy and listen to when they need to relieve stress at work.

Rural life is the kind of familiarity that doesn’t breed contempt. It is a belief that living doesn’t need to be as complicated or intense as it could possibly be. In rural settings you can find people who have practical skills that can be applied to practical challenges. While in the urban centers of the world you can find thousands of people who can re-program their cell phones but cannot change a tire or fix a leak in their sink.

Sure, you could have all the technology, conveniences and opportunities that an urban setting provides, but you’ll never have the simple comfort of being able to name all of your neighbors within five to ten miles. These are the pleasures that your neighbors appreciate the same way that you do. And your neighbors understand that a rural life means no traffic jams, fresh air, less noise and less stress.

Rural living is just a healthier way of life where families have all the space they could ever ask for. There is room to breathe easy without the endless potential threats or common distractions found in urban life. If you can appreciate all of that, then perhaps rural life will seem that much more appealing.
