Living on the Water

There has to be a reason why ocean front property is always more expensive than inland property.  As a general rule, ocean front property is a prized possession.  But everyone has their preferences, and what is anathema to some is gold to others.  Although living on the ocean is prized by some folks, there are problems as well.  Ocean storms can devastate homes that are not built to the most stringent code, and even then some people take their chances.  Lately, the ferocity of hurricanes have increased, for whatever reason, so it’s not uncommon for beachfront property to take the brunt of natures fury.  The cost associated with re-building can be substantial, and that factor has to be taken into consideration when purchasing property on the ocean.

Living on a lake can be a dream as well.  But as usual with everything in life, there are problems.  Mosquitoes and other insects can be quite a problem with any water-front property, so that has to be included in the purchase of lake-front property.  But having access to a lake by walking out your back door can be a priceless luxury!  There is nothing more alluring than having the sun set on the water, and people will pay a high premium for the pleasure.

River front property has it’s benefits but has it’s share of problems as well.  Large rivers can be prone to flooding, and there are many cases where people have lost everything when rain exceeds the normal amount.  So it pays to do extensive research on the area of river front property before purchasing.  But again, the luxury of living on the river, especially if one has a boat, is unmatched.  Imagine your own dock, your own boat, and having access to where the river leads all from your backyard!

Some people prefer desert conditions, or love the mountains.  Each to his own as the saying goes.  Yet, water-front property is always at a premium.  Special considerations have to be included when deciding to own property on the water.  Most important is the structure must adhere to the local building codes.  Also, it pays to have flood insurance.  Water damage is messy, inconvenient, and very, very expensive to fix.  But having property on the water, no matter what nature has in store, is priceless for many folks.  They are willing to pay a premium for the luxury of having unlimited access to water.
