Do we Nee d Humor on a Daily Basis - Yes
Humor is one of the highest displays of cognitive ability. Any time you can make light of a situation and always be optimistic, you will convey that message to others. Humor is catchy just like a cold. The tears of a clown has always dipicted an individual, which through, his pain still has the talent and ability to make others laugh. The late famous comedian Richard Pryor , once spoke of his troubled life and said laughing at his situation allowed him to get through it.
I suggest, when times are rough, you should be the first one to look on the brighter side. Often times this is difficult to do. This is where your creative genius comes in. Laughter eases tension and puts others at ease as well. I’m not suggesting you laugh at others, but laughing at your own human conditions will make others comfortable around you.
My uncle who suffered from Parkinson disease, loved to wear his ten gallon cowboy hat. He stated it detracted from his shaking and helped him get the ladies. It never failed, the females seemed not to notice his affliction or perhaps did not care, because he often told them, because he was born on Valentines day, surely he was very sweet. His demeanor and self confidence, attracted women both young and old. I witnessed this with my own eyes on more than one occasion.
At my church is is customary, for the mission to give a gift to anyone that was in the hospital. A friend asked me what should the mission get me. I thought for a moment. “I won’t have any use for Victoria Secret for awhile, I’m cold all the time. a lap blanket and some booties will be nice.” I had a visual image of me sitting with my lap blanket and my booties waiting for my husband to get home. I laughed out loud to myself. Maybe this was an inside joke. We all know inside jokes are the best kind.
The point to that joke was at the time, I was recalling some of the articles they had sent home with me from the hospital and they were so much in contrast with Victoria Secret. I had asked my husband to take me to get some new lingerie and bubble bath. The hospital sent home , a bib, a bed pan and some medicated lotion. Are you getting the visual now. So if I had any visitors with long faces looking sad. I had planned to show them all of my things, just to make them laugh.
That day, I served myself a big dose of laughter to get through the trauma of what I had gone through. If you have the ability to laugh, then everything will be just fine. Go ahead chase away those blues with laughter.
