I must have looked at this question for over 5 minutes deliberating which side to argue for but I still have not decided. I guess as a black woman I have two strikes against me already in who suffers more if one would like to see it that way. In my opinion sexism and racism are both very damaging to a person especially to a person experiencing both. Victims of racism suffer because restrictions are placed on them simply because of the color of their skin. They have to work 10 times harder to be appreciated for the work that they do or in general for that matter; when someone of another race could put in half the effort and reap rewards from it. Some may say that racism no longer exists but after the recent democratic nominee race and the statements that were made some are probably rethinking that thought. Though racism is not as deliberate as it once was in the 1960’s there is invisible racism still present. The unnecessary gunning down of black men and children by police officers and the numerous unlawful convictions validates my point.

Victims of sexism suffer because they are seen as unequal simply because they can bare children. There are still individuals out here that think women are incapable of formulating a thought. The amount of sexism that swarmed regarding Hillary Clinton being unable to run a country just because she cried was disgusting. Some people believe the only thing a woman is good for is preparing the meals and keeping the house clean. Till this day a woman can not walk down the streets with out being harassed by a bombardment of cat calls from men. If a woman makes more than her significant other it is seen as taboo. There is still discrimination in the work place; the glass ceiling has still not been shattered. Women have come far but not far enough because of the prevalent sexism that still lingers in the air. There are men out here today that still believe menstruation is a sign of weakness.

Racism and sexism are the same in the sense that people who are victims of it are treated unequally. We all cry the same, hurt the same, and feel the same things. Men and women are the same with the exception of the obvious. We bleed the same blood and cry the same tears. Black, white what is the difference? Studies have shown that life began in Africa meaning we are all black. So to answer the question of do victims of racism or sexism suffer more? Both do because we are treated differently from everyone else and this is ridiculous because we are all children of god. Racism and sexism exists because there is this belief that one race and sex is inferior then the next. The only way for this to be abolished is if people looked pass gender and race and looked for the souls that are within.
