Gay Marriages
One of the longest running debates in the past 20 years has been that of gay rights. In more recent years that debate has shifted to their rights to same-sex marriages and all the same benefits that a heterosexual marriage enjoys. Now for years these debates have been fueled by liberals, who incidentally are almost exclusively Democrat. However, there appears to be a new voice standing up in favor of Gay marriages. You will be both shocked and appalled when I tell you who it is.
In 2004, the voters in Kentucky voted in a 3-1 measure to ban gay marriages in an amendment that reinforced what was already state law. But a “Christian” church in Highlands, Kentucky is not only protesting against the amendment that was passed seven years ago, but is now taking that protest one step further. The Douglass Boulevard Christian Church which has roughly 80-120 members voted unanimously on Sunday April 17, 2011 to stop licensing heterosexual marriages until this amendment gets repealed. The decision on Sunday follows their vote in 2008 to “become open and affirming to all gays, lesbians, bi-sexual, and transgender.”
This church belongs to the much larger Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) headquartered in Indianapolis. This organization boasts a membership of around 700,000. The denominations regional body, The Christian Church of Kentucky, has a membership of around 35,000 in 240 congregations statewide. The denomination, like many other historic Protestant bodies, says it has been debating on the homosexuality issue for years. However, there is one massive fundamental flaw in their claims and beliefs.
It seems as though this organization is using the title of Christian in a title status only. Their beliefs that they preach about every Sunday must not be coming from the Bible, but from other sources. Nowhere in the Bible does it support, approve or condone any homosexual relationships or activities. The pastors in this denomination need to go back to Bible study school and re-examine the bible in its entirety from Genesis to Revelations. And I seriously challenge anyone to find where in the Bible that God approves of homosexual conduct. Any church that says they accept homosexuality needs to have their belief system analyzed in depth.
It doesn’t matter what laws are created regarding the issue of homosexuality and same sex marriages. A church should stick to its beliefs and not let laws of the state dictate their ideals of what is acceptable before God. The Constitution clearly states that there is to be a Separation of Church and State. By churches letting liberal ideology affect what they believe to be right and wrong is clearly a violation of this. Therefore any church that allows gay marriages now, whereas 20 years ago they did not allow them, has become an unconstitutional organization.
