Cross-dressing and the psychology involved
Homosexuality is usually the first thing people think of when it comes to why some men cross-dress. However, in most cases, men who like to dress in women’s clothing are heterosexual. They are called transvestites and have no desire to be a woman, nor do they feel insecure in their manhood. They simply enjoy the look and feel of women’s clothing.
Homosexual cross-dressers flaunt their feminine clothing as a form of rebellion against what society dictates as normal. But a heterosexual male who enjoys dressing in women’s clothing and does so in the privacy of his own personal life is considered normal by most of today’s physicians.
There are a number of men who cross-dress in private. Some enjoy cross-dressing in front of their wives which they find sexually stimulating. Also, there are many men who will wear women’s undergarments underneath their male clothing.
According to experts who have studied cross-dressing in heterosexual men, slipping into clothes designed for women is practiced by a number of men in private. They enjoy lounging in silky nightgowns and feminine undergarments such as stockings and garter belts.
However, when a man begins to wear women’s clothing in public such as work or social functions while still maintaining his heterosexual identity, he has become dysfunctional, which could be signs of personality conflict.
The desire to cross-dress usually develops in childhood. Perhaps the parent dressed him like a girl or he may have joined his sisters in dressing up in their mother’s clothes. Regardless, most cross-dressers didn’t just up and decide one day that they enjoyed wearing women’s clothing. It almost always begins in childhood.
Cross-dressing has been around for centuries and can be seen in literature. There are many cultures where men wear skirts or robes and it is perfectly acceptable in their society. But to cross-dress is to wear clothing designed for the opposite sex.
While it may be true that men who practice cross-dressing in the privacy of their own personal environment are perfectly normal, there could be serious side effects. Experts on the subject agree that while it is not considered abnormal for a heterosexual male to cross-dress in private, there is a danger of psychological damage when it becomes a regular practice.
Some cross-dressers have developed identity problems from wearing feminine clothing over an extended period of time. It may be considered normal for a man to slip into a woman’s silk nightgown on occasion but when it comes to the point where he begins to feel more comfortable in women’s clothes than men’s, he could be developing an identity crisis.
God created humans as male and female. To deviate from the divine order of creation is defiant rebellion against the Creator which ultimately leads to debauchery and enmity with God.
“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.”(Deut. 22:5)
