Yeti Sasquatch of the East
In the English speaking he has 2 names: The Yeti and The Abominable Snowman. The locals have a number of names for the animal but one of the more commonly used is the Meh-teh.
Once again, this is an ape-like creature. The Abominable Snowman is said to be 6-9 feet in height. Needing no clothes he is covered with fur from head to toe. Like an ape, the Yeti has particularly long arms.
There have been many animals that folks have claimed to have been the Snowman. This includes a Langur, a monkey-like creature. Also some claim that the Yeti is some kind of local bear: the Tibetan Blue Bear and the Himalayan Brown and Red bears.
Yet others claim that the Abominable Snowman is something else entirely. As with other hominid creatures, i.e. Bigfoot, many Cryptozoologists have claimed that this might be yet another Giganthopithecus. The area that the animal roams is much closer to where the Giganto actually lived.
There have been many who have claimed to have either seen the animal or footprints in the snow. A couple of those people were the illustrious Sir Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide, and perhaps the first person to actually step on the top of the world, Tenzig Norgay. Both claimed to have seen giant footprints in the snow.
Neither actually saw The Abominable Snowman but Tenzig’s father claimed to have a couple of sightings of the Snowman. Tenzig firmly believed in the voracity of hi fathers’ claims.
In 1960, Sir Edmund Hillary led an expedition, sponsored by the World Book Encyclopedia, involving various people such as the renowned Marlin Perkins. Of course, Hillary had Tenzig come along. During the expedition Buddhists gave the group a scalp that they claimed was that of a Yeti. In the end, it turned out to be the scalp of a local mountain goat.
The existence of the Yeti has been known since about the 4th century B.C. Given the long history of the Yeti, the government of Nepal made the official proclamation that the Yeti, Abominable Snowman or Meh-teh was a real animal. But one has to suspect this was mainly for tourist reasons and perhaps to sell a few fancy stamps.
There are a few questions to consider here. Is this creature related to North Americas’ Bigfoot? Are they the Gigantopithicus or a relative of the ancient creature? Are either of these critters even real?
