Why do Americans not Learn a Foreign Language Write Topic Article

I think we should start with the good things and bad things of being an American,or better said,of an “English speaker”.

Americans have been speaking English for years and years. The good thing is that English is the best and first international language in the world. A language that is primary for every person who wants to travel, work etc. And if we consider America with both parts of her,South America and North America (USA & Canada), we can say that languages are various. In South America, there are many languages spoken. Spanish, Portuguese, and some relations of these languages. Meanwhile in USA the only language is English, and in Canada there’s English and French. So the conclusion is found in 3 words: English, French, Spanish. 3 of the most important languages in the world. 3 languages that you can communicate with everywhere. Collaborating and living in the same circumstances, has made different peoples of the 2 Americas get together and united. This includes the languages. Especially for the USA, where English is the current language.

Now the bad thing is that this…comes to this: Americans think that learning another language is pointless, because they already own 3 of the most important languages in the world. I don’t mean that English is the only language that should be spoken. Absolutely not. Every language has it’s meaning, and represents a part of the culture of the corresponding people. But that’s not the way Americans think (or at least, it seems so). And they are not that wrong…. USA (United States of America) is the center of the whole world’s economy, and people don’t really think that learning a new language is proper/necessary. Is it? Maybe the circumstances of life can be unsuitable for language courses. In America there’s a heavy flow of work (from the parent’s side) and an absence of desire (from the children’s side). Anyway I don’t think two hours a day or $200 a month can be a problem. I think that it’s all on people’s minds. It’s not a planned thing, it’s just that without needing a foreign language in their everyday’s life they don’t think they need it at all. And they’re right about this. But every language is a different culture, and it’s educative for us to learn more and more languages. Anyway, if people believe that it’s not necessary, they can continue being indifferent about this part of their culture formation, as a citizen, first, of the world, and then, of America. It’s their choice. Anyway, if Americans want to do so, they are free to do so. As long as it’s not negative for the community, and it is in their interests, they are free to behave and learn like they want.
