The wonderful world of crop circles - a mystery to be unraveled.

Are they merely a hoax designed by elaborate pranksters? Are they the landing pads of aliens? Is there some logical explanation for them that we haven’t yet quite figured out?

It is easy to discount crop circles. The idea of a circle being found in a field, it would be ludicrous to suggest that anything mysterious was occurring except for the many questions that cannot be adequately resolved.

The first crop circles date back hundreds of years. Without flight, it was difficult to capture images of these early crop circles but stories and artworks do exist detailing the shape of the circles and how they were discovered. It was not until the 1970s that an abundance of crop circles began appearing.

One theory for the origin of crop circles is freak air currents. However, this does not adequately explain the precise mathematical circles which occur.

Another theory is that pranksters enter a field armed with wooden planks and squash the design into the field. The website below

discusses two such hoaxers named Doug and Dave - pensioners - who came forward stating that they had created all the crop circles in one particular area of the UK. They demonstrated during the day exactly how they had achieved such results and failed miserably in creating anything resembling the precise crop circles they claimed to have created during the night. Of course, many crop circle cases have turned out to be hoaxes.However, one hoax does not mean it can be concluded that all are hoaxes.

Theory number three would have us believe that crop circles are the work of aliens. An exciting theory for anyone who would like to believe other life forms exist on other planets. The evidence supporting aliens is questionable. Images such as the one on the following website http://www.rense.com/general41/circle.htm are numerous on the Internet. However, such photos could be easily forged or the developing process could be flawed causing such images. Photographic ‘proof’ cannot be relied upon. Another question emerges if we follow the alien theory through - why? If crop circles are a form of language as some crop circle theorists would have us believe it’s not very effective. Aliens - maybe but highly doubtful.

The fourth theory is related to earth energy. There is much about how planet earth works that we just do not know. To assume we do is pure arrogance. The earth energy theory states electromagnetic radiation from the earth’s core is responsible for the creation of the circles. Some research has been done in this area and it is a possibility but the question again emerges as to how such perfect circles could be formed.

Nothing definitive has been proven to cause crop circles. We can be certain that some are caused by pranksters yet there are many others that cannot be discounted so easily. It is but another area about this magnificent earth that still needs much more research before conclusive answers can be given.
