The Decline Ofthe Education System in Nigeria
One of the purposes of education in any country is to produce good citizens. Nigeria is one of those countries where things gets worse and not better. It is the largest and most black populated country in the world. It is truly blessed with natural minerals and resources. I do not think the majority of Nigerians appreciates what is around them. The climate gets very hot. You have dry season where the climate gets cold and you have rainy season. Did you know that the name Nigeria was thought up by a white lady? I know this because I do venture out of my world once in awhile. Anyway, the education system in Nigeria was never any good because it was not the people’s system. It was never meant to succeed. I am not saying that Nigerians are not intelligent. Quite a few of them are full fledge doctors before the age of thirty. I am sure there have been many discoveries made that have gone unnoticed to the rest of the world. Most countries stereotype Nigerians because of their citizens own bad experiences. I blame the Nigerian government for most of the mishaps. There is so much bribery going on in that country. Most people are corrupt. As times get hard and the government does not want to pay their citizens, some people will do things out of the ordinary to survive. The corruption is out of control. Their next generation of young people are observing and doing the same thing. You are a rare breed in that country if you do not give or take brides. Let me give an example; If you are a scientist and you have discover a new cure for AIDS, the government will not put you on a pedestal. Instead, you will have to pay a hefty bribe to everyone in order to be heard. And you still may not get any results. A lot of Nigerians have taken their discoveries and sold them to other countries. The Nigerian government do not praise their best and brightest. If you are frustrated in that country, it is not your fault. The whole system is corrupted. There are a lot of foreigners who continue to travel over there. A lot of corrupt foreign businessmen love the atmosphere. Americans do live in Nigeria and some of them love it. American government workers are not too affected by the atmosphere of corruption because they only live in restricted areas. You find a lot of Nigerians coming to America just to escape the hardship. I think running away from the problem does not solve the problem. America has it own problems with educating its citizens too. Where do Americans run when they do not like their government? Do you get my point? I think it all boils down to very selfish behavior on the part of government when you allow your own citizens to suffer. It speaks volumes of a large African nation that cannot educate their citizens to be good citizens. The world will look down on you. Now, wasn’t that educational?
