Gender Bias against Women in Pakistan
Breaking Free
Pakistani women should urge for re-evaluation and ultimately a societal change, since they’ve been stared by their counterpart men in the most derogatory fashion.
We, as women of this country need to make an escapade from our obsessions, our indulgences that varies from religious extremism and fanaticism to social taboos.
As I go by and make an effort to cope with my life as an individual here, I encounter innumerable incidents that doubt my existence. When I hit upon knowledge to suffice my quest on the silliest question about being doubtful, what I end up in sheer inquisitiveness, coming across what the world great philosophers and psychopaths have to say on women.
Coming back to the incidents I encountered, I would like to avail the opportunity to elaborate it more clearly to the humble readers of my article.
Whether its anywhere, from crossing a road across my college to a restaurant on the other end, or being present in a so called “decent” movie shop, for that matter to make a purchase, or in a book store, wherever I go, I’m never left out by men taunting me, humiliating me of my gender weaknesses, harassing me by touching me wherever they could get their hands on and at the end of the day, I’m sure its not only me, millions of girls across this country are being subjected to the same humiliation and harassment and yet they continue their lives in submission and resilience.
I remember being a teenager and giving in the utmost compliance to this matter, when I use to sit with my classmates, friends or cousins, we would be hesitant to express such encounters or if we do, we’ve to continuously deal with the label of being outspoken in an insanely adverse way.
Now since I’ve grown out of it and I realize that women, who are emotionally stronger than men, should possess the enthusiasm to collectively diverge the men from their filthy habits. The educated, enlightened and independent modern women of this country are of no use as long as they are unable to defend themselves.
They need to smash the barriers that have held them back. They should exploit their inner cerebral content to hit back as hard as possible.
And when I use the term “hit as hard as possible”, its not only in terms to fight the prevalent male chauvinism, but also to conform to men who are dedicated in the welfare of this country. Women ranging from various stratums are being given the necessary or at least some education, but an extremely small percentage of women are availing their education to benefit the country.
Bringing an example to the light, most of my classmates who are on the verge of completing their masters, plan on getting married before or right after they get done with it, however, there are a few ambitious exceptions that want to proceed with their career. Out of the educated spectrum, a very few are allowed to go into the practical field and really putting their education into practice, however, I do not fully blame the fathers for this, since mothers are also partially parents, but once they acquire the damn marital status, they’ve to act as dumb, obedient and the most sacrificing of the two. Yet again, I’ve to be conclusive of the fact, though not completely overshadowed but there is a partial streak of male chauvinism, whenever we are to talk about women of this country.
