Assessing the Differences and Similarities between Countries
When traveling to many countries, what is it that makes one country most different from another country? The food of each country is the biggest distinction, no matter where in the world the country is. Many other factors can group countries together, such as a country’s type of dress, locality or their manner of dress. However, in addition to the unique food of each country, one of the next biggest distinctions is the customs of each particular country.
From personal experience, I have noticed that the food of each country is the biggest distinguishing factor. Bread, one example, is one of the most common foods that is eaten by just about everyone, is baked differently in each country. In Egypt, bread is commonly baked as thin, flat pockets that are ideal for sandwiches. In Italy, just across the Mediterranean Sea, bread is normally baked as large balls of break or rolls. In France, bread is often seen as long rolls, resembling sticks. Though someone might think that bread is just bread, it is cooked and shaped differently, and consequently tastes different, depending on where in the world you are.
After the biggest distinction of food, the next factor is the customs of an area. Each country does things a little bit differently, as in the way they live. However, one country can have many different customs, depending on where you are in that country. The customs of the southern USA are very different from the north, and together both the north and the south have different customs from those of the west. Though customs are a large part of what makes a country, it does not seem to the biggest thing there is.
Many other factors do not distinguish one country from another, but rather group them together. Many Europeans have the same manner of dress, which can distinguish European countries from other countries, but at the same time can bring many countries together. In addition, many houses in Haiti and Mexico resemble many of the houses in Egypt. The houses in these countries distinguish the countries from other countries, but, at the same time make these countries similar to each other. As shown from these examples, it is important to have something more than the way of life to distinguish any country from any other country.
