Does everyone have Goodness in them - Yes

If we could think of some the worse people in history it would be hard to pin down any one of them who had done anything good, but if we are talking about humans than surely even the most evil among us might show a small bit of mercy to someone they wished to hurt.

We are all capable of committing the most vile, selfish acts against a fellow human being. Simply speaking, we are still given the power of choice. We have all come into contact with people we would like to see in a coffin but we are not so much under the control of negative influences that we are unable to restrain ourselves from this wicked behavior.

Is there any goodness in the terrorists bombers we see in the news everyday? You’d better believe they think so. As evil as these people seem to be they love their families and their people; although this is a good thing they will kill you, your family and friends and believe they are going to heaven.

And let’s not forget Bernie “Madoff with millions.” It’s not that there isn’t any good in people like him but you have to wonder just how much. There must be a minor amount of goodness in Madoff but it may be only for his immediate family members. Though there was a little good in Madoff and it was limited he did not have enough good in him to return the money he and his family had stolen from the people who had trusted them.

As human beings we should remember that we share this planet with some of the most sinister, wicked people who ever lived. Some on them are living right next door. We have heard of victims held captive and buried in the basement. Some people have been living next door to us for years and we have known them to be decent, up-standing people for years. No one could have guessed that there were bodies in the basement because those same individuals were so kind and generous as long as the neighbors had known them. Does this mean that there was some goodness in these cruel people?

Even if they did cruel things they may have still fed the dog. This may not be much but it was still an act of goodness. When we look at the newest serial killer who had several victims; what about the one he chose to let live and then release? What made him do that? This is no excuse for the crimes he committed on his other victims. Did he have a crisis of conscious? Was it guilt or a moment of genuine goodness?

When we hear the news we know what’s going on out there. Even so it’s not hard to believe that even the worst of us has a fraction of goodness inside….somewhere.
