Top Ten most Common Stereotypes of Men
It’s nearly impossible to compose a list of the ten most common stereotypes about men without resorting to humor. It often depends on whether the list maker is male or female, married or single, young or old.
However, for the sake of commonality, the following list should suffice. It will be the responsibility of the reader to determine which of the above categories apply to the list composer.
1. Men are always thinking of sex: Put in the right context, males of all species are constantly compelled by the natural urge to reproduce and continue their species. Humans are the only animals that make a social game of sex.
2. It’s impossible for a man to be faithful to one woman: See #1 above. Jungle behavior aside, most men are content with one lifetime partner. However, as they age, men often cast nostalgic eyes when a younger woman sashays by.
3. Men typically classify women in only two ways: angels or whores. Since teen years, girl classmates are either “easy” or “nice”. The attitude persists with many adult men, especially those who marry the “nice” girls. As soon as the honeymoon is over, the wives join the ranks of the “easy” girls.
4. Men are more aggressive than women: Since prehistoric times, the men, bigger and stronger than women, went out to hunt or make war on other tribes. In the workplace today, there is more equality, but not in war.
Men still make the decisions about seeking war, and usually for all the wrong reasons, do most of the fighting and dying. Women are less likely to want to go to battle, but unfortunately, don’t have the power and authority to prevent war.
5. Men age more gracefully than women: There are many products that can temporarily mask the aging process. Among ways women attempt to look young, many will do or dye to avoid showing grey hair. However, to men grey hair is a symbol of maturity and an asset in many careers. Even when men go bald, they buy distinguished-looking grey toupees.
6. Men keep their shapes longer and better than women: This stereotype is not always evident because of diets, surgery, lift/stretch undergarments and other shape shifters. Women may have a slight advantage today, because they’re often more conscientious about proper eating and regular exercise.
7. Men are less selective about love affairs: They’re more prone (in all meanings of the word) to one-night stands. They don’t often judge women by their intelligence, converesation ability nor anything other than physical appearance.
8. Men are braver than women: Although literature is full of stereotype male heroes, very few of them would be brave enough to go through a child birth experience.
9. Men love TV: Sports events give them the vicarious opportunity to watch others fight without needing to shed any of their own blood.
10. Men love war: Since prehistoric tribes lived in caves, when bugles called and flags waved, men are always ready for war. They put on uniforms, grab their weapons and kill other men. They must defeat evil enemies from other caves, nations, islands or just next door.
The survivors come home, award medals and build monuments to the dead. A generation later, with no lessons learned from the previous war, men are always ready for another war.
Those are the top 10 most common stereotypes of men. If you have doubts about the list, just ask any woman.
