Combating Racism
Even in the 21st century racism does still exist. Its such a shame, that people do not regard each other as human beings, but discriminate due to race. There is no doubt that racism does exist in every part of the globe. Here I am living in the middle east and do get to face racism very often.
People are singled out, just because they belong to a different cast, religion or they just don’t suit their colour. There is always a conflict in the work place, where two people from different countries, just don’t seem to get along. Ugly words are spoken, and two human beings fail to see beyond colour. I too was faced with this racist spirit, a couple of months ago. As an expatriate, of an Asian country I was encountered by a local of a Middle east country, who did not want to apologise for his child being late to school, but instead spat out abusive words, that I was an expatriate in his country and their was no rule to govern his authority. How do you combat a person with such an animosity out look ?Who has no respect for humanity?
I believe you shouldn’t stand and swallow humble pie. You should be able to stand up for your rights and demand your respect and keep your dignity. Well I did stand up to this local guy and made him aware, that we are not living in the days of slaves but in a modern day society where equal rights are there for people to survive on this planet “Earth”. You should be able to challenge the opposition, that you would take him to task and sue him in court for discrimination. Never be afraid to defend your rights. After all, the planet belongs to all. Nobody gets to own it. What did great leaders fight for? Freedom.” Nelson Mandela fought for his country and abolished “Aparthied”.
Never become paranoid, when faced with discrimination. Be bold enough to take up the cause and fight a good fight. People are fascinated, with the white skin and blue eyes. When they come looking for an admission in a school, the first question they ask is - From which country are your teachers from? Funny though, the person asking you this question is an Asian descent. What does it matter the colour of your skin etc, as long as you suit the job and are qualified to take up the roll.
Passing through emigration too, you feel the discrimation. You are segregated into different lines, some people get to queue up and some are sent real quick through emigration. At the customs, some are made to open up bags and harrassed and some and let off scot free. Yes, its absolutely clear, that you are being mistreated because of your race, and colour. Shockingly enough, innocent lives are snuffed out because of racism. Man has still not learnt to value human life, how ignorant can he be, does he not understand, that if a white man cuts himself and a black man cuts himself the colour of blood does not differ. Its the same “RED BLOOD” that keeps humanity alive.
A couple of days back, a friend of mine was introducing her son-in-law as a “White American”. This really puzzled me for a moment. What do you mean by white American I quizzed. She just gave me a sarcastic smile. Here was an educationist, talking to me in racist terms. How could you impart equality and harmony to the future generation, when you do carry racist language in your vocabulary I asked? I made sure she apologised for this kind of racist introduction.
Take up the cause and make people aware that you are totally against racist behaviour and that you will do anything to prove your point. Racism comes in different forms be alert and stand your ground. This menace will surely die, if every man fights the good fight.
