Blowing your nose in public can be very rude. Yes, it is a natural body function that all human beings must do. That does not mean that we should do it where ever we feel the need. There are many other natural body functions that you would not dream of doing in public, so why is it alright to blow your nose in public? Seeing and hearing someone blow their nose brings to mind images of slimy green boogers, and nasty germs. There are many times when it is just not right to conjure up those images. 

The top of this list is in a restaurant. This is the most rude of places you could ever choose to blow your nose. Please be courteous to the other people around you who are eating! This is not only rude, but it is gross. If you need to blow your nose in a restaurant, have the decency to walk to the bath room. There is always one close. Besides, you should wash your hands after blowing your nose anyway, so you will want to be near a sink. The thought of germs and flying snot that might come in contact with food is one that can ruin the appetite of people with the strongest of stomachs. Blowing your nose at the table is simply never acceptable. 

Another place that you should never blow your nose is in the movie theater during the movie. Again, this is a common courteously. All that you have to do is step out in the hallway so that you don’t interrupt the movie for everyone else. Chances are good that you don’t want to hear a cell phone ring, a pager go off, or talking while you are trying to watch the show, so show everyone the same respect by not honking while others around you are trying to listen to the movie.

It is also rude to blow your nose if you are in a place where someone is giving a speech. People are trying to listen to what the speaker is saying. When you start blowing your nose, everyone’s attention is taken off the speaker and onto you. This is not only a rude gesture to the people sitting around you, but it is also a rude act toward the speaker.

The question of, “Is this a good place to blow my nose?” is a simple one. If you think that you might bother someone else, then just step to the bathroom. It is such a simple thing to do and only takes minute. Your head will not explode from snot overload before you get there!
