How to help Prevent the Moral Decline in Society - Yes
Famous Journalist and author, John Underwood once said, “In a society where anything goes, eventually everything will. A society that stands for nothing will fall for anything- and then, of course, will simply fall.”
We see society falling for many things all around us. We see marriages crumbling and spouses cheating. We see children’s hearts breaking every day from child abuse. We see addictions take hold of someone and rip their lives apart. We see adolescents copying and cheating on homework, politicians caught in scandal after scandal, adults drinking heavily and getting behind the wheel, and we witness many other moral evils facing our society.
Each of these modern transgressions has an evil core that is not modern in design, but goes back to almost the beginning of time. We read in the Bible stories of deception, immorality, infidelity, deceitfulness, betrayal, and hypocrisy. We know we are not the first society to deal with these burdens, but surely we also recognize the need to curtail and minimize the moral erosion of our society.
Not all men are evil. Most men and women have a strong set of values that guide their decisions and lead them to fulfill happy and significant lives. We must look to the family to begin teaching these values at a young age. We need each person in our society’s to vow to move beyond the less than ideal circumstances in which they find themselves, and determine to be better and do better for the sake of their children and their society. Don’t allow yourself to become a victim of your past. We need parents and mentors to move beyond and empower others with a strong set of ethical values that will enhance their lives and the lives of those around them. Children who do not recieve these ethics at home need a trusted adult to teach them, uplift them, and bring them to a higher ground.
We have a responsibility to uphold certain moral standards and attempt to make our society better. We have a responsibility to help those that are down and discouraged. We can lift those who need a helping hand. We can inspire them to get back up on their feet and try harder. We can do this through kindness and service and encouragement and love. The moral values of the world can and will continue to erode and decline for some. We do not have to sit back and allow these decaying values to continue to destroy the strength of our society. We are not alone in this fight. We can each make a difference.
