Common Sense Views about Gay Amrriage
When it comes to whether homosexuals should be allowed to marry one another, it isn’t really a debate. It is quite primarily common sense. There is no reason that two people who are in love, in a country which has strict separation of church and state laws, should not be allowed to get married. Under what circumstances are people allowed to even be questioning the right of two people to be married no matter what their circumstances?
This country has laws in place in which say simply that laws are made by people based on ethics and morality, not what it says in any religious text. With that in mind, how is it ethical to restrict a group of people’s basic human rights? The Declaration of independence, the document that gave Americans freedom, states that all men (and women) are created equally and are all entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Why tell two men they cannot pursue what would truly make them happy because that, that happiness would be in each other.
How can anyone claim to be a free nation when two people aren’t free to do something as simple as devote themselves to one another in marriage? How can America as a nation even place limits on something like marriage? Is marriage all the sudden a heterosexual privilege? The author is a heterosexual but that doesn’t mean they am blinded to the fact that marriage is a human right and not a privilege given to a select few. These are humans; and people aren’t in a position to be judging another person’s lifestyle when everyone is flawed. No one is perfect, so no one is in a position to judge anyone else’s lifestyle. Think about it a little bit, it is common sense. Who cares if two people get married? Explain how two people getting married will affect someone who opposes it?
It is understood that the Bible and other religious books may be guides to a certain group of people’s lives and may be extremely important to them. However when it comes to governmental laws and ruling, the Bible cannot be the guideline. Though many of the laws in the bible correspond with the laws of the government, those that are, are common sense laws that everyone agrees with. Don’t murder, don’t steal, don’t be a false witness, but remember that these are laws that are morally and ethically true. Taking away the rights of a group of people is unethical and excluding others is wrong. What does the Bible say about excluding others, or taking rights from another person? It sure doesn’t condone it.
