Can Smoking in Front of non Smokers be Considered Disrespectful - Yes

Absolutely, without a doubt it is disrespectful.  People that choose not to smoke have made the choice to avoid this particular drug addiction.  Smoking around someone who does not smoke is no different then slipping someone drugs.

The non-smoker is inhaling the side-stream smoke from the cigarette as well as main-stream smoke from the  smoker when he or she exhales.  A non-smoker married to a smoker increases the risk of developing lung cancer by 25%.

In 2002, thirty eight thousand deaths were attributed to passive smoking.  Concentrations of many of the cancer causing chemicals are potentially higher in second hand smoke.

Consider people that have lung conditions and diseases such as Asthma or Emphysema.  They already have compromised breathing abilities.  Why would anyone want to subject someone in that position to breathing in their second hand smoke.  That is the ultimate in disrespect.

People that have heart disease are at a higher risk of the effects caused by second hand smoke.  It interferes with the function of the hear, blood and vascular system increasing the chance for a heart attack.  Can you imagine sitting in a restaurant, smoking away, when all of a sudden the man at the next table falls over having a heart attack? That is disrespectful.

Mothers that smoke during pregnancy are putting their unborn child at a higher risk with no regard to the fetus they are carrying.  Smoking increases the chances of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.  Watching someone that is pregnant smoke right in front of me is in and of itself not only disrespectful but also highly offensive .

Children and pets are rights are not even taken into consideration.  Parents that engage in smoking around their children and pets at home or in the car are subjecting them to second hand smoke and the dangers it imposes.  Isn’t it being more than disrespectful to your own children and pet’s by forcing them to deal with your habit?

The last thing a non-smoker wants to do is breath in someone Else’s smoke.  It is at the top of the list in being disrespectful and selfish.  Consider the other people you are doing this around.  Respect our health and wishes.  It is the smoker’s responsibility to take it somewhere else.  No one else should have to accommodate the smoker.
