Ambition in Relationships

Ambition is the inner competitive drive that makes people want to achieve more than others. It comes from past experiences of failure or success and is so strong that other people can sense the energy associated with it.

Ambition can destroy relationships within the family, in the office, spiritually, in friendship and in dating or marriage. It has been known to drive people to commit murder, divorce, robbery, embezzlement and other crimes. People are always competing with each other to have more money, be more famous and have more status and so on.

Most men like to be care takers and bread winners.  If a woman is more ambitious than a man in marriage or in a relationship, it’s most likely to bring up resentment and conflict. Men are expected to be providers, be more successful, always have money on them in case of any emergencies and so forth. So if a man feels he is not any of these, he will be trouble to the woman he is in a relationship with. If a sibling is more competitive than the others and is adored by the family, then it can create enemity and rivalry amongst them. If an employee is ambitious than others, he is more likely to get a promotion, be recognized and earn more money. This can make the overachiever a target of jokes, rants and even jealousy. When two people in a relationship are ambitious, it can be beneficial as they feel that they understand each other and have the same goals and wants. However, if one is an overachiever and the other is an underachiever, it can strain a relationship because the ambitious one feels like they are being taken advantage of, they may also look down on the underachiever as a loser.

Ambitiousness can also make people do unethical things. In the past, there have been many cases of corporate fraud specifically embezzlement. It can be said that these people were driven by ambition but was it justified? These crimes cost a lot of people their pension and savings. It goes to show that over ambition can lead to greed which is what these perpetrators had. The government and corporations have sour relationships due to these wrongful doings.

As children, we are advised and told to go to school to become successful people. Those who don’t do so are regarded by society as underachievers and can strain the economy of a country by depending on tax payer money to survive. This kills relationships amongst people because some feel they work too hard for others to enjoy their hard earned money.
